Hey Guys,

My new Audi has finally arrived after waiting 22 weeks (its been a long wait). It arrived in Eastern Canada in mid November and took 8 weeks to get to the dealer in Vancouver.

Now all I have to do is go in and sign the paperwork. The dealer is asking if I would like to add paint/leather protection ($700), undercoating ($500) etc. I think that this is a scam and is not required. Anyone have any experience with this ?

I wouldn't do it, especially at that price. But, it's up to you...

I'm surprised they haven't asked you about the clear bra... you might want to consider that if you drive in gravel area or a lot on the highway where rocks can get thrown at your front.

I would DEFINITELY do a clear bra if I had the option. My mom got it on her Lexus and its been amazing.

Thanks. I'll look into getting the clear bra myself as I'm sure the dealer will mark this up heavily aswell.

The stealership state side here wasn't that much more than my friend doing it him self. so he let them do it. it works and looks great.

congrats ont the new ride. us vancouverites should have a photoshoot now. I bought mine at Richmond audi and they asked me the same thing about the undercoating and all that jazz and it's not worth it. If you want a good local tuner shop where the mechanics and owners drive new audis, check out RPI Equipped. Great customer service and APR dealers.

I would get a clear bra, but not from the dealer. Ask in your regional forum for a recommendation of a local shop who specializes in it, and you'll get a much better price and probably a better job as well.

They made me sign a waiver that said I denied specific addons. If you haven't signed anything... I recommend you ask about it... then say... WOW that much? I think a local shop quoted me cheaper... they might reduce the price ;)

don't get the clearbra at all. Tom at RPI is a friend of mine and he told me that no matter what anyone says it yellows over time and it's a bitch to get off........if you can at all. I bought my car from Capilano Audi and the undercoating and paint protection is a big scam.

Hey,

Congrats on th new ride! I just ordered mine in December. I highly recommend PGperformance or RPI for aftermarket parts locally. I have dealt with them both.

As for the undercoating and paint and leather protection. That is all a huge rip off. Talk to any 3rd party detailing company and you'll see a huge price difference.

I agree on the Vancouver photoshoot idea... just wait until I get mine! [:p]

Is your car the special edition? Mine comes in on 1-21-08. Surprisigly my dealer said it is a special edition.

Undercoating and paint/leather protection is an added profit center for the dealer and a huge rip-off.

20-30 years ago, there was possibly a legitimate reason for rustproofing. Remember Rusty Jones and Ziebart? Do you see any of them around any more? Out of business - they all disappeared. Virtually all vehicles now have factory anti-corrosion treatment. VW/Audi does a really good job with this with galvanized sheet metal, cavity filling, etc.

I would complain to AoA about this unethical dealer practice.

I bet they make more selling undercoating and paint protection than they do selling the car.

You couldn't be more wrong in regards to the clear bra! Maybe five years ago there was problems with certain brands of film that yellowed. Film has come along way since those days. Any reputable company will offer a full warranty against yellowing and such. As far as removal, its easy as long as you know what your doing. Check out xpel.com for a dealer in Vancouver .

A buddy of mine has a black RX300 that has gone through snow, mud, rain (he goes camping a lot) and that clear bra has done wonders for him. I still barely even notice he has the clearbra on it.

I'm absolutely ecstatic about my clearbra. WELL worth the money.
