Ive done TONS and TONS of searching on changing my side skirts.
Ive heard of S4 sides.
Trim guard
Shaving moldings, etc.

I was just wondering what is the cheapest and if somebody could link me or tell me what exactly is needed, and what has to be done.
Picture examples are great too.

thanks

My 2001 Black A4 in my pictures (and tons more on audiworld (kingtr FXK04) pic poster) is ! Avantgaurd sideskirts with lower door moldings removed. I picked them up for 250 shipped from a group buy on this forum, about a year and a half ago. I painted self because I wanted flatter look anyways, just deeper/lower sides. I believe they shipped from DTM Autohaus. 'Bassed' on here and AW has the same side skirts I think. Not the cheapest, but I think they look pretty good. S4 sides will prob be much more... unless you can find them used.

Shokan Coachworks has used S4 skirts and doortrim,it's still not that cheap.AudiWorld.com has a DIY sideskirt{S4}in the tech.articles/exterior, and there is a DIY to paint the existing trim in either vw vortex or audiforum.ca. When you look in AudiWorld you will see the lower door trim removed, you need to remove the white plastic support and grind off the rivet with a dremel and touch it up.It gets covered with the s4 trim and the doors should not have to be repainted. The front and rear bumper plastic valences can be removed/ painted with plastic promoter/primer filler/paint,There are alot of options out there.

for those of you with it done, how much did it cost you to shave your lower door molding ?

If you are interested in painting your lowers I did this write-up last spring. They are holding up well, no peeling, fading, etc.. FWIW $85.00 total [up]

I have a black car, so painting them wouldn't make too much of a difference.

Sorry, very late response. The door molding just slides right off. There are these little metal pins. 4 on the front, 3 on rear. My car is black and you really can't see them (or at least no one has ever noticed). I think Bassed shaved his, but it was silver car and he said they really stuck out. Removing actual side moulding wasnt too bad either. I am pleased with how it turned out.

Same pic I just used here a minute ago. Car is black so its hard to see. The moldings have pins and holes that need work. I did it when I painted the car years ago. You have to weld in metal for the holes then fill, sand, prime sand, paint.

Nope 7 pins each door.http://BASSED.smugmug.com/photos/248513195-X3.jpg

A!avantgarde Reps just like Kingtr's. I was the first of every one in the GB on here 2 years ago to get them (I paid first[:D]). I originally didn't want to shave, but then could not resist the look. FWIW I ordered S4 Skirts from Shokan 4 years ago and then had to sell them when I moved to Cali, due to not installing them. I paid 150.00 back then for them Shipped, with hardware[up], when I called during the GB for the A!avantgarde's it was 350 no shipping no hardware[down].

On to the info here.

Shaved with Aavantgarde's looks like this with all pins pulled and primedhttp://BASSED.smugmug.com/photos/224649391-X3.jpg[;)]

Finally all painted up and cleared.

Now if you want these skirts you need to go through M1/DTM Auto that's who the GB went through 626-442-3356

the best s4 side skirt mod i have ever seen MOS DEF goes to tunerb5 who illustrated the perfect fitting it should be for everyone. IMO, I give him the upmost respect for taking time and making it look cleaner then a *brand new* s4 rolling out of the factory.
If you want to do sides, go all the way and dont make it look half ass. Doing a "cheap sideskirt method" will cost you more in the long run (repainting/adjusting) and you will never be satisfied 100%

If your still out there tunerb5..... i bow down to your perfection and hope mine will one be the same!!! [up]

Huh, just counted my car, 7 per door it is! Not sure why I thought it was 7 per side. Had something to do with counting and shipping the little plastic clip things to Doug (dungbeetle/rover) a few months back. I still have the pins, but envy the shaved look. Thankfully it does blend in a lot better on a black car, so at least it doesnt bother me (Much...).

I do agree with A4Rollin, that tunerb5's sides look much better. Some of us have more time (and or $). I am happy with how mine turned out. Were it a different color car I would have gone about it differently.
