My brothers girlfriends car got broken in to in his building (where he parks his car) and they took his spare key to his B7... So he now needs to get his entire car re-keyed..
Anyone had any experience or know the costs associated?

Don't change the keys, wait around for them to come back and keep a baseball bat handy.

Can you just have that key erased from the immobilizer's memory? At least that way the most they can do is open the doors and trunk and not drive off with the car. It seems like rekeying the car would be a pretty drastic, expensive meaure to take. That along with other measures, such as ensuring there is surveillance wherever he parks would probably do the trick. Just some ideas...

So... does anyone know how much it costs? If you can wait, I'll be getting mine rekeyed (damn transmitter died in one) next week and I'll let you know.

Im sure it would be quite alot. When i bought my car , the dealer lost the second set of keys, and they ordered a new key from audi and said it cost them $150.

That's actually very low cost to just order a new key since they can do it from the VIN. I'm not sure you can rekey without it costing a small fortune.

Check with your insurance company about this, it may be covered if you have comprehensive coverage.

I'm not sure if they can just erase that one key out of the car's memory but to re-key the entire car, you need to bring all your keys in and the small white tag that came with your keys. They'll have to change out the immobilizer I believe or something like that and then reprogram all your keys. Certainly not cheap.
Call up your dealer or salesman and ask.

Not to mention the physical keyhole. That entire mechanism will have to be replaced. $$$
