i know this has been talked about a million times, and i did search various times. but i wanted answers to my particular case.

so, i have a 2001 a4 1.8tqms, with apr 91 octane chip.
just bought a brand new ko4-15 with 380c.c. injectors for 400 bucks.

my question is, do i need a different chip or do i just get new files added to my existing apr chip? and do i HAVE to change anything else.(and i don't mean FMIC, exhaust, i mean what is NECCESSARY to do the swap)

Lol, you can just bolt it on. There really isn't much point in getting a K04 for an AEB engine.
APR doesn't offer a K04 kit either, only GIAC and Dahlback. You'll be fine on the K04 with your APR tune.

Yea, K03s and K04 are pretty comparable. This makes me wonder if the K03s would run well with the hammer file... ?

I'd imagine it would, the K04 is just a K03s bored up a little bit.

You mean AWM, not AEB

Its been discussed to death before, by the people who have had both setups. A proper Hammer setup will pull harder than any full bolt-on chipped K03s setup.

Now onto the real question. Where the hell did OP get injectors and a turbo for $400?!

your k03 will blow in a week if you run it on the hammer file you will also run pig rich and pull timing

classifieds [up]

Trust me, I've been looking. I've been able to get killer deals on some things, but a K04 comes up every like 2 months. The most recent one needed a rebuild/balance and the guy was still asking $500.

Keep the the Ko4 and 380 injectors and have Jeff Moss flash the hammer file. I am running it now and I love it. I have had no problems with it and it pulls really hard at 20psi.

That is sooo far from the truth.

you will NEED hammer tune and TT225 MAF (3")... along with your turbo and injectors.

then depending on how big your wallet is, i would recommend FMIC, exhaust, meth.

If he doesn't use the injectors he wouldn't need the hammer tune. To the OP: I'm sure you could get a decent chunk of change in the classifieds. If I remember right 380ccs go in the $200 range.

I think if he were to run the Hammer file, he better do it right. That means FMIC, exhaust, etc.

I have a 2001 w/ AWM motor, and I have researched this.

APR does not make K04 software. You won't be able to upgrade your current software. You'll have to go with GIAC or something else. Don't even bother asking APR, they won't give you the time of day.

You can run your current software and the K04, but you won't be impressed with the power. it will just run lean probably.

I have a K04 with GIAC standard (non-hammer) K04 file. I just upgraded my FPR, still have the stock injectors. It's great. The hammer file has larger requirements (larger injectors, MAF, etc)

If you have a 2001 chipped with APR... you can take two routes to basically the same power:

1. Get chipped giac-x k03s (roughly 600 dollars)

2. get basic giac k04 (roughly 1400 dollars)

*** Or so i hear....

I have heard of alot of throttle cut issues and poor peformace w/ GIAC regular Ko4 file thats why I went hammer. Jeff moss can flash the 3 program hammer file for $645 stock, pump,& race. You will diffently need the FMIC and the TT225 MAF along with those injectors. I have been driving w/ out FMIC now that its cold but will be getting one in the spring.

no no no... the GIAC X is $495 the upgrade to a k04 file is $200.

so if you have a non-giac chip or no chip at all, it would be $695 to upgrade to the k04 sofware. not sure between the various k04 files though, such as the hammer....

always go with GIAC .... they don't charge a ton for the upgrade.
