Well i have full coverage, and my insurance rated my a4 worth $4,700. Is that fair? it had 140k but was in good condition. What do you guys think?

I would ask for more because of all the mods. See if you have any receipts of your wheels and stuff. Seems kinda low, I know you spent a lot on mods, and hopefully you can get some of that back.

For a stock 97 with that many miles it wouldn't be too bad for an insurance company quote. Depending how much you had "invested" in mods might make it worth trying to get more. Thats what I would do.

insurance companies are notorious for low balling. I would go on KBB.com and start there. my 98 avant with 123,000 miles 2.8 quattro had a suggested private party value of around 9700. I would fight for more cash...
going on ebaymotors or other auto trading websites might give you a closer idea of market value.
Who knows if the insurance company gives a crap about market value though...
good luck man

Yeah i told them my car is rated in kbb for like 6500. They told me kbb does not matter to them. Then i asked for them to show me where i can buy an a4 for 4700 thats awd and 5 spd 1.8t. They said they had a few in the report they sent me and all the examples they gave me were going for at least 6k. And as far as mods, i dont think they care since that isnt part of the stock car. I am buying my car back for $750

Yeah buy that shit back. If the car starts you can sell the motor for a grand.

look at KBB, edmunds, NADA, and try to find a few examples on Auto Trader that are similar to yours, it helps if they are somewhat local too.

That should give you some good ground to bargain with.

Where do you people get this crap from? Great idea; telling an insurance company that you had unreported modifications. Insurance companies kind of frown on that kind of thing.

I'll let you know what insurance offers me on Monday. :( - Mine's a 97 1.8t with 132k on the clock.

what your insurance company should be offering you is an average of x amounts of similar cars selling in your area. As far as mods, unless you reported them and had them scheduled on the policy( I'm talking mainly audio/ video, and wheels) then you are for the most part out of luck. What does help most in your situation is proof of recent maintenance, new tires, etc. hope that helps you out some.
