Does anybody have a problem with their Tiptronic 2.0t (or 3.2, or anybody) changing gears at too high an RPM or not changing at all when in Regular or Sport? This happens to me at least 2x per day and it kind of doesn't feel right. Thanks [drive]
EDIT: This happens not only on hills, but on flat roads as well. Thanks

sport mode holds gears longer than when you are in normal drive mode. this is normal.
it's done to give you more "top-end power" in each gear.
(i use that term extremely loosely)
when this happens, you will hear the engine groan a bit, it's normal.

I believe your car has adapted to your hard driving habits. Ease off on accelerating for a few days (actually depends on how often you drive) and see if that calms things down.

This happens to me at the exact same spot on my drive home from work every day. I go up a long hill that has a traffic light at the top and most of the time I have to creep up slowly or I just stay stopped on the slope and then wait for some room and then accelerate to the top. Once I turn right at the top of the hill I go up a very very slight inclined road and I notice that the tranny will hold onto 2nd or 3rd when I'll want to be in 4th or 5th. I think its normal (in my situation) because the tranny was just holding the lower gear on the hill just before so it doesn't want to upshift too soon. I either just hammer it so that it will shift or I put into manual mode and upshift it myself. This is NOT in Sport Mode on a 3.2 V6.

It's because you're car is sensing a certain amount of load in a certain gear which causes it to stay up a bit higher than normal.
Call your dealer and see if there are any software updates for your tranny.

Do you know if the software updates are covered under warranty or do we have to pay?

Warrantied my friend :)
I believe there is a thread floating around where people with rough shifting in second and third gear either down or upshifting just get new software.

My x5 does the same thing sometimes after going up of down a long grade. It think it is normal, some cars are more reactive to it than others. I got a software upgrade and the issue got a bit better and there was less of a delay.

there is defo an accelerometer. does this happen in the same place in the commute which happens to be heavily on a hill up or down? that happens to me, but its not too big a deal
it also adapts to your driving, so if you were punching it on canyons or for a long time on the hiway, then slow and go, it will hold again.
