same issue here after getting the pss9s installed.. "clunk" sound when turning the wheel all the way. It went away after getting an alignment however.

it sometimes happens to me when i turn really hard, however i think its just hitting the inside of the wheel well stuff, so i dont think its bad....

could be that the bolts for the coilovers were not torqued properly..happened on my b5...

to my understanding that's something audi's do when you turn the steering wheel completely. it happened when my car was stock w/ 17's and now that's it slammed w/ 19's. oh well. no harm no foul!

I think I read somewhere that it is the quattro or something and is normal

maybe the springs weren't seated properly? I'm having the same problem with my coilovers and I have noticed that the top 2 rings of the front driver side spring have been rubbing against each other, which most likely is causing my "clunking" noise. Let me know how it goes because I will be getting mine checked/fixed as soon as xmas season is over..

I'm bringing this thread back to life - starting happening to my car when the temps dropped to under 40. Any correlation? Also it didn't do it when I had my stocker 17's. My steering or handling doesn't 'sound' or seem compromised either when going at normal/semi-aggressive speeds. I got an alignment about a month ago plus my 15k service. Then it started happening (go freakin' figure). Guess I should get it checked out.

it happens on mine too, sporadically, only at low speed, most commonly when i go to back into a parking spot after driving.

It could be alot of things, but it definately isnt something that will make your wheel fall off. Im not concerned about it and im actually leaning 2 possibilities,

1. The spring could be rotating a hair on the platform, creating the donk noise.

2. The top bolt isnt torqued properly. <-- more then likely this one.. ill look into it tomorrow and let you know if i get it resolved.

Just dont turn the wheel all the way and you wont hear it anymore. I just bust the 3 point turns constantly, to avoid the dreaded CLUNK!

Mine made it with the stock suspension and continues to make it now with coils. As posted above...it's normal. Cold temps can amplify creaks and noises.

I 've checked it in dealership, and was told "noticed aftermarket spring/strut; noticed contact mark between springs which may be the cause of noice mentioned" and then charged $60 for letting dealer checking non warranty parts.........

btw, they told me the springs might be over compressed or the top couple rings are just too close to each other. and this isn't a safety issue.

well, lastly,

I want my money back ! rofl

Thanks for the replies and peace of mind. I was thinking along the same lines but wanted some additional opinions. I will be putting my 17's on for the winter and will inspect all the components.

I try to avoid turning the wheel fully whenever I can. Can't be good for the steering system.

Same problem here, it's been bugging me lately. I was going to get it checked out at the dealership before 50k, it won't hurt just to have them look. Seems to be only at full lock left on the right wheel side though. Definitely doesn't sound like it's hitting something, sounds spring or un-torqued nut related.

I figured out my issue - its the PS2 tires in cold temps. Damn things almost "skip" across pavement while wheels are turned and traveling at low speeds. I usually have my winter set-up on by now but this year I messed up my back and have activity/lifting restrictions. Today it was 60 degrees and everything was fine.

i went to the dealership with the same problem, and the guy laughed and said it was a common problem with b7s and to tell the mechanics, so they can fix it

So was it fixed? Surprised that any dealership would warranty suspension/steering problems after the car has been slammed with coilovers
