Hmmm broken English...
The first is the preparation of the material and the tool then you detailed with these photos:
A key carracla with an extension rigid and flexible another with a brace glass of 10 (for which risk to disassemble the paragolpes)
A boat loctite
A boat transparent polyurethane

Nice work! I'm too scared to bake my headlights. [:(]
dang. i was just thinking about something like this. nice job.http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/style_emoticons/default/drooling.gif
the only thing for me, i'd like something bright enough for the daytime to work as our day time running ligihts.
elgino...do you have a picture with your low beams on at night with the leds.

12-14-2007, 08:23 AM
I would have preferred to have them bright enough to run as daytime running lights. Iyt just doesn't have the same effect as the S5...

Pssst. That's because the car isn't an S5.

Instructions:
The first thing is the preparation of the materials and tools, that i are depicted below in the picture:
1 socket wrench with extension
1 locktite
1 polyurathane clear
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197416247.jpg
Next, you need red/black wire for the install of the LED's on the headlight casing and clear tube to put in the led's for protection.
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197416702.jpg
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197416721.jpg
60cms of led strip (27 per headlight)
Moldable white plastic tube (the led's will go in here and then we'll shape them with heat)
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197416893.jpg
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197416908.jpg
Also we will need:
A drill with a (something) size 4
a heat gun
a sylicone gun
silver/gray heat resistant paint
a soldering kit
a kitchen oven
*start by soldering 40cms of wire at the ends of the led strings (they come marked with negative and positve ends) and later we'll put them inside the plastic tubes and shape them with the heat gun, making the glue stick completly to the string of led's.
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197417375.jpg
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197417386.jpg
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197417399.jpg
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197417412.jpg
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197417423.jpg
HERE YOU CAN see how the plastic adheres to the led's thanks to the heat:
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197417591.jpg
4 strings ready for 4 headlights:
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197417785.jpg
Now we paint them with the silver heat resistant paint:
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197417908.jpg
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197418015.jpg
Now VERY CAREFULLY with a very sharp and fine cutter, cut out each of the LEDs so they show thru the plastic:
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197418192.jpg
now put the painted strings inside the clear tubes, closing the ends with some heat:
http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/uploads/monthly_12_2007/post-7083-1197418375.jpg
---this part is how to remove the headlight and open them up...u guys can look that part yourselves on the board [:D] ---
Take the chrome lining off the headlight and drill the hole to to pass the led's thru:
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/5831/p1010770eh6.jpg
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/1553/p1010771do8.jpg
Now ductape the string to the position you want it in, and use locktite (i guess the locktite in spain is superglue or something) but becareful, as it eats away at the chrome, so use very little. Also, tilt it upwards so the locktite flows down towards the rest of the string;
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/9629/p1010773uz3.jpg
...thats it for now, i'll do the rest later.

Pssst. That's because the car isn't an S5.
doesn't have to be an S5, the B8 A4's are going to have the LED headlight strips as well I believe. looks awesome imo, especially with the actual headlamps on.

Sure, but those LEDs look out of place on the B7 or on anything else that didn't come with them originally (imo of course).

I like it, it's very unique. I don't think I'd do it to my car though, it looks kind of funny with the shape of the headlight, but it's very original none the less

I don't think it really goes too well with the b7 headlight contour. It would look really good with the straight shape of the b6 headlight. In my opinion it kinda looks like a row of christmas lights but thats just me. Anyways, props [up]

Im not a very negative poster on these forums so I'll try to keep this positive. VERY original, i love the idea, it looks pretty great "in theory". you can just tell they are kinda ghetto rigged, the lights arent exactly in straight lines really IMO. OUTSTANDING idea none-the-less. great job fellas
That's pretty bad ass. Quick, someone from the B6 forum do this! [:D]

There is too many LEDs, it makes it look cheap in a bad way.
Im all for a good cheap mod that actually works or looks good, but this is not one. Joder

I think this looks amazing. LEDs make your car instantly recognizable. R8 and S5 are the only cars that have them here, and I can spot them a mile away down the highway at me... (but then again I love those cars so I'm probably looking for them)
Looks like cutting off the silver on each little light would take forever. What you save in $$$ on this DIY mod costs you in time!

08-01-2008, 02:58 PM
^Agreed. Show me a Subaru or a Mitsubishi that has this and then we can talk. However, give it less than a year or two and I guarantee Lexus or Infiniti will have ripped this off already.
^^More than just the S5 and R8 have them. The S6 originated them, and the A5 has them as well. Not to mention the new A4 already has them, despite not being for sale in the US yet.

Nice job, looks amazing! Functionally do the LEDs provide better viewing of the road? Approximately how long did it take to do this modification and cost?
i agree it looks cheap. you cant use 5mm led's. they are too close and don't resemble the OEM led setups at all.

looks real nice with the lights on... looks better as a DRL, and with them off looks like cheesy casino lights. I would have gone with less bulbs.

08-27-2008, 11:16 AM
While I love the B8 look, I don't quite think it captures the same effect. Whoever said the LED's need to be a bit larger and more spaced out is spot on, that would emulate the B8's headlights much better. Also, I don't know too much about LED's, but anything that could make 'em a bit brighter would be great.
Perhaps it's just the photos, but is each bulb easier to distinguish when you're looking at it in person?

hmmm maybe if the leds are spread out more it may look better

I have a few questions for someone who is much more electrically inclined than I.
I am trying to wire up some 24v LEDs, AFAIK cars use 12v. So would I have to buy a converter that takes in 12v and converts to 24v or is it a much more difficult process. The LED strip has two wires that come off it a negative and positive. I would assume the black is just ground to a sanded metal part on the car and then the red wire goes to the power converter which then connects to a 12v power source?
Again I have no clue but this is just a wild guess, If anyone can help I would appreciate it.
Thanks!
Martin
