well i got the metra kit today in the mail... I must say, i thought it was gonna be perfectly matched to the rest of the dash. Its not. Its just a regular black plastic. What can i do to it to make it match better? Spray with flat black?

is the color off, or the texture off?

if its the texture you want to prime/ sand/ prime/ sand untill its smooth, then repaint it

the color and texture is off. The texture is kinda roughened, but not too much. Definately not smooth like the rest of the faceplate.

i will do those prime/sand steps, but what brand flat black should i top it off with?

try a satin black as it will most likely match better

Are you serious the plastidip will match the hazard trim/climate trim?

Last time i sprayed something with it it was rough and rubbery.

can you make it come out smooth and nice?

try doing a few light coats to start and then finish with a nice wet coat. the wet coat should level itself out pretty well.

I suggest you at least do a test piece with the tool dip before you go hog wild.

SEM Trim paint

do you have experience with this? and where can i get it.

If were to use the plasti dip would i need to prime first? It turns out the surface isnt as rough as i described.

Yes. I used it on my bezel. Works real great.

You can get it at your local automotive paint store.

holes in the paint tent to be surface prep/ paint temp issues

well it was brand new so i figured it was clean enough...should i have done something else?

I think im gonna spray prime, and top it with SEM. I hope i can find it at advanced auto because i dont know where else it would be...

Doubt you'll find it at advance auto.

I had to call around to find mine.

It any cheap either. ~$20 per can.

Heres how mine turned out with a little sanding, filler primer, more sanding and a top coat of BBQ & stove black. Thought it had a little more flat finish to it, but i'll re-do it eventually with some semi-flat black or something. Its really close and hard to notice unless you look at it in really bright sun light. Also re-finished the shift trim and switch trim with the same paint. The trim ring for the radio was left alone to keep it from looking too plain or "plasticy".

So, then a 7" monitor is the biggest that will fit it, without cutting...?
