View Full Version : Mis-fit Velocity 715 wheels on an 2008 A4

Just tried to put my new Velocity V715s on only to see that they didn't clear the front calipers!!!!!!![headbang] Only a couple of MM off, but they do not spin.

Anyone else experience this? Are the '08 front calipers bigger than the '07s? I don't want to spacer them out as I'm already a bit concerned they're on the edge... Any ideas??? Hopefully this is just a one time problem - especially for Velocity!

wow, here's a sorta related post:

if this just a little at the tips of the calipers, you can grind them down. a few on here have done it to gain that little clearance they needed. if anything VMR should supply maybe a 3mm spacer for issues like this....?

Hay, thanks for the feedback. We'll see how it plays out. They're already out as far as I'd like so the grind may be the way to go...

Hopefully you smooth out all the wrinkles and post some pics with the wheels on.

Definately. I - like many others I'm sure - have spent WAY too much time figuring out what wheels to get. I'm not a big "vivit" fan so it's pretty slim pickings out there. I'll be hitting all the angles to show how the wheels look and fit so anyone thinking of getting the V715 will be fully informed.

why not run spacers?...they're a ET38 offset from what i read on the VMR post...with a 3mm spacer u would be at et35...thats a common offest for our cars on a 19x8.5 wheel

I'm going to try a 5mm spacer and see what they look like. I'll post some pics regardless so others can see what they'd be getting if they went with the V715s

since the rear wheels sit slightly more in than the fronts already, and if the offset for your wheels are all the same, the 5mm will poke the front out that much more.

if the 5mm in the fronts works out for you and you'd like the rears to line up, probably will need to run at least an 8mm or 10mm out back.

otherwise, grind the front calipers and throw the 5mm in the rears.

i'm running 5mm on my rears with my bbs rgrs and it lines up nicely with the fronts.

just a couple suggestions.

Just shave the calipers down. I had to do it to mine with a 5mm spacer. I took it down about 2mm on the caliper using a drill with a grinder attachment. Just remember to spray a few coats of paint over the spot you just ground off.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm going to get the fronts working first and then see how much the backs need to come out.

In theory, I picked these wheels because they "are manufactured for Audi fitment" (and Velocity pushes them on this forum) so all I had to worry about was the backs. We'll see what happens.

Could go with the grind, but I don't want a hack job. How's it look to have part of the caliper smooth and the balance with a "rough" look?

i read that the V715 was supposed to clear B7 brakes....u should email VMR on this...i would be pissed buying a set that specifically states CLEARS B6/B7 brakes in an online ad then get ones that dont fit....thas just me.

I'd be frickin' pissed off also. Spacers compromise the integrity of your suspension. If a wheel doesn't fit, the solution is to get a different wheel, not to add a spacer. [wrench]

I spoke to them yesterday and that's what I told them. They were cool about it and asked if I'd take pics of both spacers and no spacers to get to them to try and solve the problem so they were cool about it.

One theory is that, as the brake pads wear, the calipers shrink down so since I've only got 1,500 mi. on the car, they stick out farther...

I'll keep everyone posted on what happens. The wheels are sweeeeeet and I would think others will be looking into getting them as well.

Have you checked if the 2008 calipers are the same as 06/07?
I got mine V715 when I had about 17k miles so I have gone through part od the pads. Now I'm concerned when I get a new set of pads if the wheels will fit. I can see the are very close to the caliper now but I have not used any spacers since I got these wheels.
Plz keep posted.
