Just curious, haven't heard of anyone doing this yet.
RIV.ca doesn't have it on the banned list...so perhaps it's ok.

Not from an Audi dealer but you can buy a used one and have it done.

OK Whatever, I just brought a car through the border and I waited in a lineup of 40-50 people doing the same. Despite what some dealers are saying there are many who will sell new to Canadians and why shouldn't they. Business is business and Audi has the same warranty regardless of where you bring the car. I would call RIV before you look for one but I saw loads of '08 cars coming through. I feel for the canadian dealers because it is the brands who are setting the unfair price difference.

The new distributor for Audis in Canada is Audi USA! With the outrageous price differentials why would anyone buy an Audi in Canada? I'm shopping an S5 right now.

It's not against the law by any means, but Audi fines the dealers the MSRP of the car if they find out cars are getting exported out of the country. They're trying to protect the dealers in all areas from losing profits/customers to foreign nations. It's also not unfair price differences, it's the currency... the american dollar is weak right now, so even us down in socal are getting calls daily about exporting cars to canada.

When I purchased my S5 I had to sign a waiver stating that I would not sell my car to someone outside of the U.S. for 6 months. If I lived in Canada, I'd definitely find a way to buy it in the U.S. though. The price difference isn't consistent with the US dollar being close to equal (now less) than the Canadian currency. The dollar will continue to crash as the U.S. economy begins to tank even further - it will be interesting to see what happens with the prices of Audis and European cars in the U.S.

It's interesting to see this happening, because for years Americans have been shopping our side of the border for deals with no issues. Canadians should refuse to buy at higher prices and force the manufacturer to set prices more responsibly.

X2 - They have had enough time to adjust pricing. It is not like the currency has really changed overnight. People just become more aware when all of a sudden CDN surpasses the USD. Even this time last year the currency did not justify the price difference.

riv has yet to ban the car.... so the tough part would be to get a US dealer to sell to you.... if that's no problem.... then you really don't have a problem i would think imo... could be wrong... but i doubt they can stop you from bringing it in... but i would definitley check before buying... maybe get a paper or document from riv stating that this specific vehicle you are about to buy will be allowed into Canada?

That would be my approach to it.

That would be nice of RIV, but i can tell you with certainty that they just say look at the list and if it's not inadmissable, you can bring it in. In 3-4 months there will be buttloads of slightly used S5s available, so just a little patience and we're going to see some great deals on this car. I would imagine $50K USD for a used one vs $70K+ CDN. Anyone know how much the MSRP is here in Canada for fully loaded?

There are barely any options for the S5. I went to check it out. It comes standard with Bang & Olufsen and the advanced Key FOB and stuff so pretty much the only option is Navigation? Which is maybe 4000-5000?*If i remember correctly* So it will just be over 70000CAD for a loaded one in manual transmission.

They priced it right i think.. Not that expensive really if you look at the car and how much it comes standard with.

hmmm... I didn't think the Canadian cars were different from the US spec. On the US cas, the Nav/B&O/Tech(advanced key/park system/etc.) are all options

Yes apparantly they are different...we're somewhat "forced" to have a few options(not a bad thing) ... only option we have is the nav...but with it priced well under the S4 it suddenly doesnt seem too bad..

The Canadian list price is 65,900 and includes the B&O and the keyless entry that would normally be in the US B&O and tech packages respectively. The Canadian cars also come standard with the carbon atlas inlay (I actually prefer the brushed aluminum and I'm not sure if I have to pay extra for it in a Canadian car). The nav option is $3500 and the only other option would be the Vavona wood or stainless steel. I need a car for April and have decided on an S5. None of the Canadian dealers (I'm working three) are budging on price which I think is really foolish. I'm willing to pay a couple of thousand bucks to buy the car in Canada but the current 14K difference is absurd. You can buy a car from a US dealer if you have a valid US address (not a post office box). However there are currently lawsuites pending in the US claiming US car companies are infringing on constitutional rights by discriminating against canadian buyers. What other retail product is restricted from being sold to foreigners, including land? I suspect you could go into a US dealer and threaten a human rights complaint and they would have to sell to you, regardless of what their company said.
Sorry for the long diatribe but we Canadians are getting pissed off at the intransigence of the Canadian car companies for not adjusting their prices
