I should be getting some money soon and will be able to get rims. I can't do suspension first like everyone says because I need new tires and I'd rather get rim+tire combo so I don't waste money on tires that won't work on bigger rims. I've done plenty of reading and I don't think it looks bad. Everyone says that it will look like a 4x4 because of the bigger rim. Here is my question: I think the stock is 205x45(?)x16, If you get 225x40x18 the overall diameter would be the same. If thats not the right combo I would get the correct one. Wouldn't the ride height be the same since the overall diameter is the same?

ride height will be basically the same, the problem is the optical illusion created by the shorter sidewall.

so there is no difference in wheel gap it just looks that way?

pretty sure that is not the stock tire size.. ratio is 55 iirc (205-55-16)

this will tell you how far off your speedo will be (based on outer diameter of the tire)

I knew that 45 figure was wrong thats why i put the "?" I didn't want to go out and look. I use this website when I want to see how it will compare.

the od will essentially be the same for both setups, but with such a thin tire on your 18's the wheel well is going to really stick out. Why not add some springs for like 200 bills and then get your rims. Down the road you can throw on some better shocks or even swtich it up to a coilover setup. You will hate the look if you dont drop it like its hot

This certainly isn't the typical question.

How is someone going to tell you what width tire you need and we dont know the width of the rim.

i'm not worried about tire width. I know what tires I want. I'm going with 225x40x18 on an 8" rim.

i woould go 235/40/18, well i did, little bit bigger of a tire but also little bit less wheel gap, and not big enough of a size difference to set the speedo off. This one is at a weird angle so it makes the front look higher but you can take a look at the back and get a general idea.

And then the money shot

I have 235/40 on my 18s. I had 225/55/16 on my old stockers (205/55 came stock).

225/40-18 or 245/35-18 are the correct sizes. 235/40-18 is a bit tall but won't hurt anything.

bump. not trying to steal this thread. . . but i have a wagon with 225/40/18s and the spare tire hole does not fit a full size spare. what size donut would i need? the original spare tire wont work right? original tire is a 205/55/16, but i feel like my rims are little to big to work with the original size.

A full diameter spare will fit but it won't be full width.
