To sum up:
Weight = 3818 lbs
Weight distribution = 57.7/42.3
[eek][confused][:(][:o]
Unless their scales are way off, those are some very disappointing numbers. I know the euro spec car is listed at 1630kg. Did the U.S. get screwed again?

Lol. They must be keeping them warm in the engine compartment because that weight distribution is awful. Worse than the B6/B7 S4.

I was just doing some fact checking and the numbers seem legit. There is a 217 lb difference between the U.S. spec B7 S4 and euro spec B7 S4. So, a ~200 lb difference between the euro and U.S. S5's seem right.
Damn you Audi! So much for lighter weight cars. [:o]

I thought the B6/B7 part of what you said seemed kind of off from what I remember from the article. Went and looked at it again and it says the last S4 they tested had 61.9 % of it's weight on the front.

Ouch, you are right. I didn't even read the article.
I just remember seeing the weight distribution on Audiusa a while back (I believe for the B6) and they had it listed much more favorably. Either I have a bad memory or Audi was bending the truth.

Germany has it backwards, our cars should be lighter to compensate for our larger asses. :(

Well, it's can't be worse since there is no predecessor. At first I thought it was worse than the S4 (going by what I recalled Audi having listed), but after rechecking articles for the S4 and S5 from C&D it did improve... slightly. It went from horrible to awful. [:o]
It looks like a case of the U.S. getting screwed again

Can we have some more sources? I've looked into this thoroughly and it should be just about exactly the same car for europe/usa. I'm thinking there is an error somewhere

That's the only "official" looking weight stats I've seen for a U.S. spec S5. Audiusa is currently listing the S5 weight at 3593.5lbs which is the EXACT weight as the euro spec version (1630kg). Seems a little suspect since that has never been the case in the past. Looks like they just borrowed that figure.
Don't forget... there is a 200lb difference between the U.S. and Euro spec weights (listed by Audi) for the B7 S4s. What's the difference between those? Based on that, one can assume the C&D numbers could be correct and the S5 suffers the same fate as the S4.
C&D weight listed for the S4 is pretty much right on with the Audi numbers listed too.
Hopefully there will be some more tests where they actually put the car on the scales.

Navi, power seats, nicer sound system (B&O) all those options put extra weight into the car.

OK... I found out that there is a 200lb weight difference between the AUTO AND MANUAL TRANNY'S ... could this be the issue here?

The car tested by C&D was a manual.
Also, as for my B7 S4 example, both U.S. and Euro spec cars are manual. The weight difference between them as per Audi is around 200lbs. Seems to me that the S5 follows suit.
I'm not really sure what the differences in between the two cars are. What I really care about is not why the euro spec is so much lighter, but why the U.S. is so heavy. Point being, maybe the Euro S5 is available without power seats, windows, etc. (I don't know) and that is what the weight is based off. Even if that's true, it doesn't matter to me because if that's the case, the S5 with couple of options in Europe is also heavy. Not saying that's the case, just speculating.
I only care why the S5 with standard options is so damn heavy.

Here are a couple more sources. Not sure how they obtained their info. They both have the same number... unfortunately that number is larger.
3891 lbs!!!
If correct, that's worse than the B6/7 S4 sedan. [:o] So, does that mean the B8 S4 sedan is going to weigh in at 4k??? [=(]

I like how Car and Driver had the front tires at 38psi then complained that it washed out on the skid pad... is that high of a tire pressure normal? I thought they were all between 32-35psi? Not 38psi front and 32psi rear. I don't even bother reading Car and Driver any more, they're so biased to BMW it's not even enjoyable to read.

In my S5 Training, they cited the dry wieght of the vehicle (with manual trans) to be 3,593.5 lbs...

Tire PSI goes along with weight one is going to carry, or high speed travel, or someone who wants a stiffer sidewall.
On my A4 s-line I have Bridgestone RE960 tires, and I keep them at 40psi all around. It works great for me.
I'm with you though as in most quattro's tire pressure is typically the same all around. 38 front and 32 rear sounds more like a FWD setup. [confused]

That sounds correct... for Europe.
The 3 different U.S. sources I cited have it at 3800lbs+ including one that physically put it on a scale. I'm inclined to believe that until someone else puts a U.S. spec car on a scale and says otherwise.
BTW, yeah, that is a weird tire pressure that C&D tested with. On my last two cars I ran about 39psi on 19s.
