The fires around Southern California have been devastating and continue to destroy lives... Over 500,000 people in San Diego county have been evacuated, well over 1000 homes have been destroyed, more than 150 businesses were burned to the ground, and the fire department feel that they have been defeated and most likely the fire will burn its way to the coast... leaving thousands more families homeless!!!

I have always felt the urge to help whenever I see a natural disaster covered on the news, but this time it's close to home and I feel it is my DUTY to do something to help. I've checked around on the internet, and seeing that a substantial monetary donation isn't something most car enthusiasts are capable of and because most agencies (like the Red Cross) do not accept donations of clothing etc, I think we should help group of people who can't do much to help themselves... THE KIDS.

On Halloween, thousands of kids will be reminded that their neighborhoods in which they were planning to trick or treat, are gone. Our plan: To bring Halloween to them! The planning is in the VERY early phases and we'll update as things are firmed up, but a few of the Pure Euro members are planning to bring candy, trick-or-treat bags, and maybe some face paint etc (so the kids can feel like they got to wear a costume) to the Fire Relief Shelter in San Diego... As of right now, the biggest concentration of people is at Qualcomm Stadium... (yeah, that place we had the BIG SoCalEuro GTG a couple months ago... that is now home for thousands of people!)

So we need your help collecting candy! Go to the stores and buy, ask neighbors, family, friends, co-workers, ANYONE to donate candy and bring it to this GTG!

Please post this on whatever forums you are on so we can make as much of an impact as we can... Many details are being worked out re: getting the candy down to SD and handing it out, so stay tuned!

I think Brandon is still working that part out. I guess a lot of the people he asked are not able to make it down to SD. He asked me too, but with work and school I doubt i'll have time to get down there and back on Sunday. Hopefully we can figure something out at our meet tonight.

Who did you hear that from? The last I heard Aaron was going to work on getting it down there. Hopefully him or Brandon can let us know if it made it down there successfully (I hope so).

Not cool Tony. What matters is that YOU showed up and YOU contributed.

Well you think a few more people would show up for charity, dont you? Kind of sad that it was so little people.

Anyway, is the sunday meet thing still going on?

It has nothing to do withs eeing the cars which my first post sounded like. I can see the guys online. It's just these fires are LOCAL and there was NO ONE there.

Guys, sorry for my being MIA... I've been at SEMA and spending A LOT of time on the phone with different organizations trying to figure out the best thing to do with the $...

The candy that was collected at the GTG was donated to a childrens home and was passed out last night for Halloween (THANK YOU TO THOSE THAT CAME TO THE GTG AND DONATED!!!)

The cash is an entirely different story... Any and all of the organizations in San Diego/fire-effected area have no ability to accept ~$1000 in candy... It was an absolute logistical nightmare and I was informed that we would not be "allowed" to simply pass candy out (due to health/security concerns)... I am talking with a several different organizations to see whats best.. I KNOW I don't simply want to cut a check to the American Red Cross after the Katrina debacle..

So as of right now, there is just over $900 sitting safely in the PayPal account and I'd love to hear some suggestions... I was thinking maybe using the money to buy turkeys for the needy for the fire-effected areas.

I'm sorry guys... I really am. I wish there was a way that we could have made the large-scale candy delivery happen but it just wasn't going to happen.

I am very open to suggestions on what should be done with the money... if you have any ideas feel free to post up, email, PM or call me (my cell number is 818 917 3366).

turkeys do sound like a great idea, but brandon u should check into that before we buy turkeys, because if we cant hand those out to people either (for whatever reason we come across).....were gonna be stuck ....with turkeys this time lol

Haha... If we decide to go that route, I'll talk to a company down there (like Honeybaked or whatever) and pass out vouchers instead of actual turkeys..
