View Full Version : B6 A4 Easter Eggs! Features not found in the owner's manual.

Are there any unlisted features you've stumbled upon other than the VAG reprogramming of convenience features such as:
1. Auto-locking doors at speed
2. Open/Close windows, sunroof with remote
3. Removing select lock/unlock feature
4. Removing seatbelt chime (on MY2004 and newer)
I noticed on the Avant, if you just unlock the hatch and upon closing, the alarm chirps and reactivates without the remote.
Other features listed in the manual I really like are:
1. storage trays underneath the front seats
2. little sunvisor flap above the rear view mirror (standard on vw's too)
3. the grocery bag hooks in the trunk (sedan)
Features I really hate:
1. Useless front cup holder!!!!
2. 24 hour clock
Any others that I've missed? For example, I know that on the mercedes, if you press and hold the recirculation button on the climate control, it activates the "tunnel" feature and closes all windows and sunroof. Depressing and holding the recirc button again will return the windows in the last opened position. I wonder if we can VAG this feature?

you can switch the 24 hour clock. just set it to a different region (there are 6 or 7, with different combos of 24 hour clock and region settings aka metric system or standard)
the best trick still (if you're dealer didnt do it) is setting your windows to go up and down with your remote as opposed to sticking it in the door

I believe it's like that with all audi's. I know in my 96 A4 if I unlock the car and only get into the trunk (and don't open any doors) everything will relock and the alarm we reset itself after I think one min. Just don't leave your keys in the back.
I wish I had storage trays...

On the climate control, you can change the temp for BOTH SIDES (without doing one side, then doing the other) by holding down the "Auto" button...
When you unlock your car with the remote key, the mirrors and seat will go back to the #1 position of your Seat Memory... comes in handy when someone else drives your car (GF or Dealer, etc.)...

Pressing left hand side air con red (+) button and circulate button at the same time (for about 2 secs), you can switch between 'F and 'C [:D]

You need to VAG to turn off the chime:
Instructions:
Select]
[17 - Instruments]
[Recode - 07]
Write down the existing coding for future reference.
Enter 5-digit code from below
[Do It!]
Look at the first two digits in the coding. Add the values for the options together to get the correct coding.
00 - No available equipment
+01 - Brakepad wear sensor warning active
+02 - Seatbelt warning active
+04 - Washer fluid level warning active (may only work with pre-2000 models)
+16 - Navigation System (non-USA models)
Look at the third digit in the coding (Market version):
0 - "Germany" 24 hour clock
1 - "Rest of World" 24 hour clock
2 - "USA" 12 hour clock
3 - "Canada" 12 hour clock

i could never get the seat chime to stop on my 03 GTI, my 04 doesnt have it, and my roommate who has the exact same car as me does (i havent messed with the vag yet laptop is broken) but the clock thing works i know that, and you can also change the whole cluster to do Celsius, liters, and km.

But for the km and liters you need VAG, right? No shorcut to do that?

Let me correct myself.. that should be the MENU button, not 'mode'. oops, my bad. Once you've press it for 5 secs, press it two more times til you get to the 'Radio/NAV' menu and turn your right dial so the setting is at ZERO. This pretty much is like pushing the 'LOUD' button on many aftermarket HU's.

Nope. The only power on the 2002 1.8T's seats is the lumbar support.
Manual throttle body adaptation:
"The Throttle is "Drive By Wire" and adapts to your particular driving style. Do a TBA Throttle body adaption).
1. Get in your car, it doesn't matter if you close the door or not.
2. Turn the key to the on position, the position just before the starter turns over.
3. Press the gas pedal to the floor with the key in the "on" position.
4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the "off" position(don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
5. Wait 2 mins. for a full alignment. During this time you may hear very faint noises and clicks. I
only heard one sitting in my car, if I got out and popped the hood I might hear more.
6. Drive the car as you always do.
Depending on your driving style, this may or may not be a big factor. I do a lot of city driving so
I noticed a big change after erasing my history. It is not hard to do this, just follow the
instructions - Key on, pedal down, 5 sec, key off pedal up, wait 2 minutes.
Keep the key in for the entire thing. "

Is this from TSB (technical service bulletin) from Audi? I thought with the Tiptronic, it is constantly adapting to your driving style and delays the shifting points based on driving habits. How does this TBA work with manuals when the driver controls the shift points, or does TBA serve another function?

This Deals with the Throttle body and the fact that there is no linkage between the gas pedal and the throttle body. It is all computer controlled. Nothing to do with the transmission.
I know this is an old thread, but I am not sure if some of you know this already or not. You can turn off the center display (the one that shows the CD track, MPG and stuff) within your guage cluster so it is just black. Not that I would ever drive around like that, but I thought it was intersting.
Just hold down the button on the underside of the windsheild washer control and the check button (self diagnostic) on the dash at the same time and it disspears.
I found this out while trying to get rid of the beeping from setting the speed alarm. It gets rid of that too.

I've had to turn the bass down on my bose system, it tends to overdo it as it is. Maybe I'm "debosed" and don't know it--will have to play :)
I have power seats on my '05 1.8t as well, and if theres some kind of memory function I'd love to know about it (every time I get it back from being washed, the seat is ALL the way back, and takes like a minute to move it back up. Ok, not really a minute, but a while)

You can turn on the stereo with the key out of the ignition and it will automatically turn off after an hour.
The sunroof tilts up if you push in the dial and hold it.
There are little drawers under both front seats to hide goodies and valuables.
These might be obvious to most, but some might not be aware.

The front cup holder can be removed... PM me I'll show you how.

guess I'll chime in since some1 updated this post recently.
i like how when i leave the car and close the door while my girl has her door (or any door/trunk for that matter) open and i set the alarm so when she closes the door, the alarm automatically arms.
also, i didn't see it on this post but if you want to pop the sunroof up, you don't have to hold it down for however many seconds it takes to pop it up. you can do what you do to the automatic windows by "clicking" (for lack of a better word), the button really fast and the sunroof pops up automatically.
hmm, dont think i explained that well. trying agian. you knwo when you flip the window switch, your windows automatically roll up/down. if you do the same to the sunroof button it'll do the same.
also, there's a bit of a memory on that module so if you have the sunroof open, you can close and pop with 1 touch.
1. you flip the switch to close
2. click the button to open (like you do on the auto windows), and let go.
your sunroof then closes from the open position and then pops the sunroof up on the rear.
you can do this too in reverse and your sunroof will go from popped up to close and automatically opens...
wow, i suck at explaining today...

Good way to slow down...if you're being paced...
Activate cruise control and push it down...(don't tap)
Speed will immediately drop w/ out the brake lights going on...and no pulling e-brake slowly necessary.

To reset your auto windows in case you disconnect the battery or the pinch mechanism goes into effect, you hold the switch so your window goes up, when up all the way, hold it for 3 seconds, then hold it down, with no lapse in between, and keep it down for 3 seconds after it is all the way down.
I am sure you already knew this, but I thought I would post it up anyway.

If you press the auto up function on your windows and stick your arm out the window it will automaticly go back down when it senses pressure against your arm.. cool function. Also if you twist and hold the sunroof knob all the way it will go back an extra 5 inchs. into the roof.

If you have the lighting package with the self dimming mirror when you put your car into reverse the self dimming feature does not work, so you have an unobstructed veiw. Also, when you put the car in reverse the HVAC system automatically goes into recirc. so you do not get any fumes in the cabin.

- When you change lanes, just tap up or down, the turn indicators blink 3 times for each tap.
- Set control for the right side passenger mirror, go into reverse and the mirror tilts down so you can see the curb, only works for passenger mirror though

I have a 2003 and it's pretty simple. Shut off your car and put the turn signal down like you changing lanes and leave it there (left or right), that's it. You should hear the "headlights on" chime when you have your door open. Do it at night so you can see it.
I thought it was cool but will I ever use it, nope. I'm thinking it would waste the battery.

To get rid of that "thumping" sound when you have your sunroof open, crack your pass. rear window, it goes away
And when you tilt it up, lower your rear pass. window about 2-3 inches and you'll get a nice tornado affect in the cabin that only the drier can really feel. only cracking the rear driver window 2-3 inches, the front pass. tends to feel more of it. just something i found out when my a/c broke in my B5 one summer.

If your key remote does not work, before you run to the dealer for a new battery try this.
Put the key in the ignition and turn it on to the AUX position (instrument cluster is lit). Wait 10-30 seconds.
It should I guess reset the key. If this doesn't work than you need a new battery.

The De-Bose procedure posted here is bunk. I'm not sure what the purpose of the Radio/NAV setting is, but it only drops volume *temporarily*, and does not alter the frequency response.
Try this:
1. Turn radio up to volume 15 (note the sound)
2. Enter Radio/NAV, turn to 0
3. Turn radio down one notch to volume 14 and immediatly back up to volume 15 (note that it sounds exactly like it did before)
4. Keep radio at volume 15
5. Enter Radio/NAV, turn to 5 or -5 or whatever the max is. Note that it gets much quieter. Also note that the VOLUME has changed, not the frequency response.
6. Now turn the volume DOWN one notch to 14 and back up to 15. Note that the audio returns to EXACTLY the same levels as it was in step 1
:D
There is an actual DeBose procedure but it requires recoding via VAG-COM. I did it on my radio, but the actual numbers weren't documented for my radio code. I'll see if I can find the numbers (I believe I originally found them by searching AW's VAG-COM forum).

Speed Sensitive Volume Control (SVC)
This setting in your radio will increase the volume level of the radio based on the speed of the vehicle. This is so you don't have to compensate for road noise by turning the radio up and down as you speed up and slow down.
Hold Menu on your Radio for 5 seconds until you see "SVC". Change the value from off to 5. The higher the setting, the more the volume will be increased based on speed.

I'm confused about this. What do you guys mean about getting the sunroof further into the roof? When I open mine it goes all the way into the roof already?

in my usp, if you rotate the roof switch until it stops clicking it auto opens but if you look at the roof you can see 2" of sunroof still. but of you rotate the switch more and hold it, that 2" tucks right in.

This was overlooked by me and saw a Audi tech do it and I felt dumb. I never knew you could open the trunk with the hidden button under the lid, above the license plate.
I always either used the button from my key fob or the latch in the driver side door. That little switch is coolness. hahah

that's because the 05's don't have the knob go all the way around. it goes up to the hard notch about 5/6 of the way around, and then you have to hold it to get it to open the rest of the way.

the turn signal parking lights trick worked for both left and right sides independently. both DID NOT come on. both individually.
Still trying to figure out the debose thing. it sounds like there is more bass, but it also seems like a purely volume thing as well. maybe it depends on the song. not too sure yet.

Ok this might already be posted in here, If you program the climate control with one key in the car and insert another key and program the climate control the system will detect which key is being used and set the controls for that key. Front Windshield Wiper Washer Mode - Defeat Extra Wipe
==========================
Don't you hate it when you use the wiper washer, it wipes for 3 times, pauses for 2 seconds, and finishes off with an extra wipe?
My front windshield is usually clean on the first 3 wipes, only to get it streaked by the extra wipe.
Solution: Allow the wiper washer mode to wipe. But during the wiping, pull down on your wiper controller for "mist" mode (single wipe mode). The extra wipe will be defeated.
Have fun

I feel like a uber noob for saying this but just yesterday I FINALLY found out how to turn on fog lights!
I knew the two little icons to the left of the knob weren't there for nothing. It so happens that you have to actually PULL the knob up and then the lights turn on.
I still don't understand why they put only 1 rear foglight, though..

Wow shak. You shoulda been on the foglights a while ago. I think everything in this post is covered in the owners manual. Everyone needs to give that thing a read. They only have it on the left cause its the passing side.

you can also wire up the other side also.. the rear foglights are located on the driver side.. but since in some countries the driver is on the right.. the wire is there.. just not connected.. is a cool feature.. when someone is tailgating you.. just turn the foglights on

Not sure but think this will not work for cars that are chipped. I believe you lose the Manual throttle body adaptation, as I was told by the guy at APR. I got the APR stage I setting.

If the passenger side temperature is adjusted (presumably by the passenger) it switches back to independent mode automatically.

Its far easier to just change the setting on the pass. side and they'll go independent, rather than a series of buttons. If your passenger wants a different temp. just let them change there side.

I've skimmed thru this whole thread and I didn't see anything about the gas cap holder (there are two cutouts in the top of the gas cap, simply rest it on top of the fuel door when pumping gas)... It keeps the cap froms just dangling on your rear quarter panel. [:D]
Good catch.
I noticed this the first time that I gassed up. I however do not even have the little string/rope/cord to hold the gas cap in. I just put it over on the notches and call it a day.
