Our stock brakes/rotor are 320 right?

Inferno, do you have the Ceramic pads on all 4 corners? How is the stopping power as compared to stock? I was considering the HPS, but I've always wondered how the Ceramic performs.

It's funny, because on the reviews, it only got a 3/5 on stopping performance. =X

Correct

Yes, I did put them on all 4 corners. The stopping power feels about the same -- can't really tell much of a difference there, but the real benefit IMO is not having to deal with the brake dust that the OEM pads put out! The OEM brake dust was driving me crazy!

I would not hesitate buying the Hawk pads again. [up]

They hook up just the same as OEM.

HPS perform much better than ceramics and are still dustless.

Alright you guys... I trust both of you as far as your opinions go. I can't tell you how F*%&ING SICK AND TIRED I am about the dust from my OEM pads. A guy I work with looks at my wheels every day and shakes his head at me (he keeps his stuff tight). The Brembos on his STi don't dust 1/3 of what my car does and he drives his stuff HARD, and I drive like an old women (crazy sometimes, but mostly slow). [;)]

I wanted new "low dust" pads months ago, and when I posted I just got confused and gave up on trying anything. Now I don't wash my car anymore because the wheels look terrible after driving very little. Usually the next day, my wheels look like CRAP! I waxed the wheels inside and out and it does make the dust come off easier, but they still look like crap in no time. Waxing does not help, period!

So what do I buy? Ceramic or HPS. I'll buy next week. Push me in a direction!

Go with either Hawk HPS or Carbotech Bobcat pads. Both will provide nice improvement in braking with low dust characteristics.

Skip Hawk Ceramics. They are dustless, true, but they perform just like OEM pads in term of everything else.

I'm currently running Bobcats in my BBK and HPS in the rear. I haven't washed my car in about 5 weeks (too lazy) and while there is some light dusting on the wheels, they still look more than acceptable.

I did notice that Tgrclaw also has a BBK so that might have something to do with his perception of his pads ;) In all seriousness, I'm sure that the HPS pads are very good for performance and low on brake dust as well.

I can tell you this, I have OEM brakes with the Hawk ceramic pads and at my last track event, I had 8, 20 minute sessions of hardcore road-racing (check the vid in my sig) in 90 degree weather and the Hawk ceramic pads held up perfectly! I would like to revise what I said about them being about the same as OEM -- they definitely seem to hold up better in high-performance situations than OEM.

However, in your last post, I didn't hear one mention of your need for performance pads. It sounds like more than anything else, you just want to get rid of the brake dust. I was in the same boat. IT WAS DRIVING ME MAD having all that brake dust from the OEM pads. The Hawk pads have been absolutely WONDERFUL!!! No more brake dust and you definitely aren't compromising anything at all in terms of performance either (the Vette and M3 that I out-braked and out-corned will tell you the same thing!) ;)

A search would show you otherwise... Anytime it's brought up in a thread like this, there are usually a lot of responses.

I've got the reverse setup of Tgr_Clw. I have Hawk HPS on my BBK and Carbotech Bobcats on the stock rears. I can go for weeks without washing the rears, whereas before I put the Bobcats on, the rear wheels were black within a day. I was thinking of replacing the front with the Bobcats as the HPS pads are putting out a bit of dust.

Alright guys. I checked out the info on Tire Rack and it seems both products are touted for having the same features/benefits. Prices are nearly the same as well.

Dante, you're correct. I use my car, but not often. I'll never track the thing and I don't push it hard often. I don't need high performance pads, or maybe I should say I don't need more performance than the OEM pads.

I liked the idea of looking at the Carbotech Bobcats because I'd like to give Mike @ PureMS my business (great guy), but the cost is higher than both the Hawks.

Regardless, thanks guys. At least this thread stayed simple enough to pick a direction. I'll be ordering Hawk something or others next week. I can't wait for the brake dust to end! [up]

how did you get to see the prices on those pads on tirerack.com?
it appears they're not available for "2007" A4/S4.
and if you could share where to buy them cheap, that'd be very helpful, too =)
thanks!

interesting....it seems that selecting 2006 A4 works, but not 2007.
are there any differences between 2006 and 2007 brakes?
sorry, I'm a noob [:D]

I had these quoted from them as well:

2006 AUDI A4 w/ 320mm front disc
(front) HAWK CERAMIC BRAKE PADS $99/set
(rear) HAWK CERAMIC BRAKE PADS $60/set

This is what I got. And I am looking at doing the S4 fronts

2006 AUDI A4 w/ 345mm front disc
(front) HAWK HPS BRAKE PADS $93/set
2006 AUDI A4 w/ 288mm rear disc
(rear) HAWK HPS BRAKE PADS $56/set

Maybe the price includes shipping?

This is interesting because on my '04 B6 USP the OEM pads don't give off much dust at all. On the other hand I see a TON of B7s with wheels that are twice if not three times as full of dust as mine. Did they change the stock pads on a B7 versus the B6?

I've ran Hawk HPS pads all around (with stock rotors) for about 8 months before getting the BBK. Very noticeable improvement over OEM pads (which were almost new to begin with).

They use the B6 S4 brakes in the B7 A4 so they probably use different pads or they sourced different ones for this application. Do the B6 S4's have the same problem as us.

You've ran the ceramics before? How did you measure that the braking performance was better? The "red dot" on the web-site?

I've read reports from several people (AW/AZ) that Hawk Ceramics offer basically stock like braking performance. I also remember reading (on Hawk site I think) that HPS is a more aggressive pad compared to the Ceramics. If you're already upgrading the pads, why not get something that performs a bit better?

I've personally have not used Hawk Ceramics in my car.

here's some more info on ceramic brake pads:

http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/tech/techpage.jsp?techid=88

Bottom Line is that this. If you are into tracking your car or drive aggressively and are looking for a high-performance brake pad, then yes, I would recommend HPS. If you are looking for something better suited for the street to minimize brake dust that provide better performance that OEM pads, go with ceramic.
