Anybody interested in black roof for the B6/B7? [Archive]

Hey guys, I thought this would look really nice.
Does anybody else want a blacktop for their car? Or am I the only one going crazy for one?
This guy has made them for the G35s and 350Z (Bluebatmobile)

If that is vynil (which I assume it is), it'll never work as well on our cars because of our antennas...

it's not vinyl its paint...im having it done next week along with my headlight housings and probably mirrors too...painted "brilliant black" from gutter to gutter...and you're not crazy...its freaking gorgeous and it seems to be a pretty big hit on here

As always, do what YOU like. But to answer your question, I am not interested in the black roof look at all (that is unless you aleady have a black car). I think that I'm older than a lot of people on this forum -- I know my tastes have changed as I got older. I've noticed the style differences between the younger and older crowd.

Bottom line is if you YOU like it, then do it. Who cares what anyone else thinks.

I have a black roof on my B6, along with so many other people on the B6 forum. painting the roof is easy and cheap, I paid $300. There is no way an overlay will look as good as paint, I think its kind of a bad idea.

Paint is a bit more permananet though.

A lot of e46 bmw guys just use 3m vinyl on their roofs which is probably what this guy is marketing.

Look at the 3rd picture. Take note of the difference in the reflection of the house on the vinyl vs. the glass. I'm not saying vinyl wouldn't be better since you can just pull it off if you change your mind, or when trading your car in, but it definitely doesn't look as good as a painted roof.

A back roof is old news lots of VW audi people have been doing it for years..... I do like them on red and white and I prob would have done it years ago if I had a sedan, not feeling it on a Avant roof line...

i would be interested possibly... but not for another ~3-4 months. first i want to get some other things done--tint, coilovers, wheels. i think black roof would look funny on my stock non s-line 2.0t

I painted the roof black on my jetta and out of all the mods I did I enjoyed that the most. I'm still contemplating wether I should paint the roof on my white B7.

With the wheels that you have, I think it'll look good.

Carbon top? It'll be an expensive make for a real one, I don't think he'll do that.

I know the pricing for the G35 is 68 dollars. So it'll be around the ballpark price for us.
And all the G35 owners who have purchased it has been happy.[:)]
So I guess it's a YES from you guys?

You might want to check with the guy to make sure that he will also include the overlay for the gutter.

IMO it looks way off without and doesn't line up with the lines of the front/back windshield.

It kind of does look like the gutter section on the G35 does not have overylay. So yeah.

I have the metallic silver and I would LOVE to get my roof painted black, I am just outside LA in Agoura Hills, next to Thousand Oaks, lemme know about this Pasadena deal, that would be tight!! And how much do you think it would be to get just teh roof painted ?

Black Roof is definately a sexy look! But would a vinyl overlay do any damage to the paint should you decide to take it off down the road? That would be my only concern. That and it wouldn't look quite as good as a paint job... but cheaper and not permanent should your taste change in the future.

hey i just talked to this guy on the phone, and he's still willing to do it, all we need is someone in the san diego area to meet up with him to make a template (he says thatll only take 10 mins) and then from there he can start to produce them. email him or pm me because while the pricing is reasonable (his other overlays are $70 so this should be similar) he'll cut a good deal for whoever will meet him to make the template.

my 05.5 have the shark fin on it. and my car came without nav nor sat radio. I'm not sure why it was there, but it looks good, so i don't mind its being there.

lol. blue bat mobile has quality work. when i used to be in the subaru and nissan worlds. i see his work all over the place. he has overlays and al that good stuff.
