I'm looking at getting some winter tires/rims for my B7. A friend has some 16" rims and wheels and I'm wondering if that'll be ok on my car? (Currently has 18" rims).. Does anyone know if this messes up the speedo etc?

depends on the size of the tire.
if you've got 235/40/18 now...you'll probably want to go with 235/50/16 or 225/55/16 to minimize the change in the overall diameter of the wheel.

Depends on tire size.
Closest 16" tire size is 215/55/16 (OEM size), not 225/55/16 as suggested by Buttafuoco, although that size is still quite close.
Best online tire size calculator I've come across: http://www.not2fast.com/chassis/sizing.shtml

205/60/16 this is what use.
great for ice and slush.
for packed snow 215 would little bit better.
this was confirmed by Michelin engineer while I was at IAA '07.
