View Full Version : Air pressure build up in the gas tank?

Every time I fill up these days, I'm never able to get a full tank of gas, the needle always seems to stop about half way through the last quarter on the fuel gauge, even if I try to overfill and the gas hose trigger pops a few times.
Is it a pressure build up in the tank or is the gauge broken?

I haven't noticed any other threads on this, but you may want to do a search. Someone who might know a little better would be the dealer. They aren't always real bright, but they do have fancy test equipment and they won't even charge you if you are still under warranty. Sorry for the smart ass answer. It's a bit tongue-in-cheek. If you provide some more info we may be able to guess at what is wrong, but the dealer is more likely to actually find the problem. I suggest taking one of them with you when you fill up or take a 5-gallon can of fuel with you and fill up before you go. Then you can show them that it won't take anymore.
Does the gauge go down right away or does it seem like it takes a while to begin dropping?

Now that you mention it, I think it does take a while before it starts dropping, I can usually do about 50km before it starts going down in the usual fashion, so maybe it is simply a gauge problem?
Either way I'm going down to the dealer on monday so that they can replace the AC filters that smell like rotten fruit, so I'll bring this up.

Yeah, this happened to me. The problem was that the floater was bent and kinked. Go to the dealership and have the fuel pump and the thing replaced. =) Your fuel pump is probably bad as well.
