I'am buying/swapping a chiped Dalhback ECU for my stock one. Both of the cars are 2001's or possibly 01.5 which ecus are interchangable and does anyone have any advise or tips on what do do as far as swapping them goes. Thanks, Chris

P.S. this is happening in just a few hours.

get your ECU code from the current ECU, write it down, install the new ECU, recode it then restart car.

^^^ where do you get it and how do you recode?

you have to have a VAG-COM

go into select control module,

then engine

on the right you see recode or coding

click it and read off your stock code.

when you install the new one do the same, and change whatever number it has to your old number.

^^^^ really? I thought all you had to do is take one out and replace with the other if they both a QMT. Do I need to unplug the battery or should I not ?

you can unplug the battery if you want. I don't when i remove my ecu. I hate going back and resetting all my audio stuff. If the two cars are both quattro manual 1.8t you don't need to recode. But if you do it should be 06201 i think. Its posted somewhere. Anyways, check to see if the letters at the end of the ecu code printed on the top match first. If i recall there is some wierd compatibility between ecu codes.

for the 2001 cars, the CH and M ecu's are supposedly interchangeable, but i had bad results when i tried to interchange them on my car.

I had to get an ecu with exact part number match.

well the boxes were identical! runs perfect. pulls nice and super smooth. About how much drive time should I expect for best results?

8 -12 start/run cycles
