Im new to the a4 club here and I wanted to know if there was a list of different exhaust upgrades that were available?

Im looking for something just as quite as stock if possible a little louder is ok but nothing to crazy, i plan on chipping the car its a 99 1.8tqm so i figure it would benefit from a less restrictive exhaust. Thanks in advance

many options.
Ive heard miltek and APR are good.
APR is known to be "stealth"

there is borla exhaust and custom

i have listened to many clips of the borla and i cant really tell how loud it is but i was hoping someone in the CT/MA area had one,

also with the apr, what else would i need to upgrade, i read that it comes with the downpipe, do i need to upgrade the header as well? or is that something i can leave?

I'm in MA, I have a borla and like it. Its not too loud, has a nice tone to it, esp. WOT.

borla exhaust is smaller than 2.5" IIRC. personally i would stay away from borla and tt. i would go for milltek if youve got the money, followed by apr, then ghl, then neuspeed (the tip is a little too blingin for me)

you should also think about a 3" testpipe, best 150$ you can spend.

ok well i am liking the sound of the apr being stealth and not loud at all, i also am interested in the test pipe, this is a replacement for the catalatic converter yes? if so will i still be able to pass emmissions?

yes, it replaces the cat right after the turbo. as for emissions, that sort of depends; mine came with a spacer for the second 02 sensor, so it doesnt throw a code as the sensor is pulled out of the ehxaust flow, reading cooler after the pipe, giving the illusion of having a cat.

so, if your guy looks and sees a pipe there, and the second 02 sensor is reading cooler than the first, you may be able to pass. its worth the risk IMO, i think if you take it to the right place, you can pass it. my 16v rocco with no cat passed, it all depends on who you know and where you stand. keep the stock cat just in case, although it is a bitch to replace.

Go with a custom exhaust shop.
A lot cheaper. I payed $400 installed including parts, ect for a full 3" exhaust.

i would go with a custom exhaust but i doubt it would quiet, all the custom ones i have ever seen have been pretty loud

Yup, go custom. I got magnaflow straight-through 2.5" all the way from the cat back w/ mandrel bends for $300ish total, it's not much louder than stock to (for a straight-through system at least).

well in CT they are pretty strict with emissions so i want to keep a cat maybe just a high flow one, and the apr is looking good does anyone have any pics/vids?
