View Full Version : a/c compressor or clutch?

I just did my 2nd timing belt change w/w.p. and also a valve cover gasket. I figured I'd put my a/c belt back on since I got a new one w/ the kit. Before, I cut the old one off because I was hearing a whirling sound. In addition, the pulley would turn and then freeze, cycling like that. I put the new belt on and the compressor still makes cold air-with the sound-almost like a shot water pump. Is it the clutch not working properly or do I need to get a new comp.? I didn't see it freeze up yet...
btw-thanks to the guy who did the t.b. write up that came w/ the kit.

you can check if the fan clutch is gone by getting some newspaper wrap it up really big and stiff then stick it in if the fan clutch stops its the fan clutch but have the ac on so the fan clutch kicks you can test it that way.

Not the fan clutch-the clutch on the compressor. Thanks though. The fan is electric for the a/c isn't it?

try recovering your freon, and adding some oil to the system.

mercedes makes some good shit that we use at the dealership. it has been known to quiet down compressors like that.

I'll be taking the belt back off if no resolve.
