At the track last night I had a friend with me in his 99.0 5spd A4 1.8t with 199,700 miles on the clock. What would you guys think about a 2.7t swap into into his car?
Taking into consideration that the car itself is in great condition just the only problem is the high mileage 1.8t.

Everything I've ever seen on AZ says it's way to expensive. He'd be better off buying an S4.

Why would you ask this question?
Aren't you boys with FAW?
2001s4ny.com does that swap correct.
If so sourcing a s4 wont be a problem and money isn't an issue then why not. Just make sure you can pass emission after all is said and done.

That is correct, I'm just trying to figure out the general consensus weather its worth it, especially when we're basically looking at just the cost of parts and nothing else.

The car runs fine as it is, just my boy is trying to go for something far more unique than your generic 2871r or k04 A4 1.8t.

Unique whips is in Long Island too [:p]

LOL... I don't see the big deal of being "unique" i rather have a run in the mill turbo setup. So i can get any problems fixed that might arise. Going super custom or unique is opening a bigger can of worms.

If i were him run a compression test on his engine slap a "run in the mill 2871r" until the engine gives. then sell those parts to fund his s4 project.

if he has the money, just swap it. I think it might be cheaper then buying an s4.

Well how much does a 2871r kit run for?

Comes with software?
Injectors?
What else is needed to be done to the engine for it not to come apart under load?
