Any help would be appreciated, guys. I lived in OC for 4 years and my g/f is from there but we are planning to move back next year. I'm just trying to get a heads up so we can be properly prepared for what apartments to move into. Our budget is ~1300. I am lowballing that number to be safe but we are looking at some apartments in Costa Mesa/Santa Ana area right by South Coast Plaza. My girl is going back to school so we want her to start at OCC for her first 2 years so if anyone knows of decent apartments for that price range in the immediate or surrounding area please let me know.
Oh, BTW.... Anyone remember me from Audiwerks? It was like 2 years ago since I last went to a GTG[:D]

Look into those condos off 17th\18th street. Sometimes people rent them out for around that price. Other than that you'll be getting nothing bigger than a 1bd\1bath. $1500 will step you into the next larger place. GL

Thanks! I think I remember you. Have you gone through quite a few sets of wheels in the past? I think you had some M Classics that I was looking at back in '05.
We're not really looking for anything bigger than a 1bd/1bath. I don't like to rent in the first place so I'm not going to spend too much money on an apartment. We're going to compromise with where we live. It just has to be safe for us and our cars and relatively quiet.

Costa Mesa and quiet ? hahahaha. That's like the entrance city to the beaches with 100 tap bars on every corner. I'd say stay to the west of the 55 freeway and you should be fine with everything.

I remember Costa Mesa. Its quiet. When I think of not quiet I think of Santa Monica and LA. West of the 55? Doesn't the 55 end in Newport Beach?

Cuts right through Costa Mesa on the way to Newport. You remember where the freeway just ends and streets pickup. That's Costa Mesa. Triangle Square area.

good tip AyTheory. I forgot that they had homes/apts for rent or own there.
Element256: Ah, I remember Triangle Square. I always thought that was still Costa Mesa. I'm now on Craigslist looking at everything-- Lake Forest, Irvine, Costa Mesa, Tustin, City of Orange... that general area.
They have some good deals on there. We'll be taking a trip back out there next month so we are going to stop by and see everything in person once again.

My neighbor owns a condo in costa mesa, cross streets Mcarthur/Bristol right near So Coast Plaza and currently looking for renters. His condo is fully furnished as well. He's asking for $1300.00 a month too. If you are interested, i can get his number for you, pm me for it.

you might be surprised at what you can BUY in that price range. there are government sponsored 100% financing options available with relaxed guidelines. PM me if you have questions or would like me to prequalify you for a loan. [up]

JohnnyK: That sounds awesome!!! Its too bad that our move date will be in '08.[:(] We'll keep in touch though if he still needs a tenant at that time.
Knightstick: Believe me, I would love to buy rather than rent but in my line of work(Certified Personal Trainer), it will take a little time for me to build my clientel. Once I'm in a nice stable position again I'll then look into options for what loans I can use. I do have the VA loan available for me to use but we'll look into that later down the road.
