View Full Version : HELP!! multiple misfires on my 2.8

I am getting the following CEL codes:

16688,P0304,Cyl.4 Misfire Detected
16689,P0305,Cyl.5 Misfire Detected
16690,P0306,Cyl.6 Misfire Detected

Now I have been searching and I am thinking it could be my coil pack. Does anyone have experience with the 2.8 and misfiring? The car was running fine this morning, but as soon as I replaced my plug wires and fired it up it started to shake pretty bad and got the flashing CEL. Also does anyone know the cost of a coil pack for the 2000 2.8?

Thanks in advance and help will be much appreciated.

Most likely a bad coilpack, it will be one if all the misfires are comming from that same pack, if so buy one for each side, and don't drive it until you get it fixed

A bad coil pack causes 3 different cylinder misfires? Doesn't make sense (unless you have very bad luck).

Your a V6 and i'm assuming you have 2 ICMs for each side. One ICM is for cylinder 1,2,3 and the other for 4, 5 and 6 right? Swap your ICMs and see if you get misfires on 1, 2 and 3.

Check the connections on the plug wires, since that was the last thing you changed since your problem came about.

I'm no expert, just trying to help you troubleshoot.

I think I might have put the wires back in the wrong order. Does anyone know where I could see a diagram for which wire goes where??

Looks like i crossed the wires, can anyone tell me the proper firing order??

yeah, you probably crossed the wires. there are three coil packs in total. if you look on the frame of the coil pack mount you will see that each coil output has a number next to it. that number corresponds to the cylinder number that plug wire should go to.
