2.8 Liter V6 Quattro w/ 90K miles presents with hesitation upon acceleration between 1200 and 2500 RPM, mostly in 2nd (its a manual tranny) and 3rd gear. Symptoms began around one month ago, without provocation. Seems to be progressively worsening. Nothing seems to make it better. Already replaced MAF sensor.

For about the last month, I've endured this new problem without a CEL. My concern was elevated enough to take her into a local European tuner, who ran a VAG-COM. No faults were detected. All cylinders good, no misfires. ABS control module out (for a while). Pulled the MAF...car ran fine without any disruption in idle or acceleration. Therefore, a new MAF was ordered and installed.

Just installed the new MAF. Left battery unhooked for about 30 minutes. During the test drive, the car presented with the exact same symptoms as before.

Timing belt and water pump replaced at 73K. Tuneup (new plugs) also at 73K. New battery one month ago.

Need help diagnosing this one.
