i have some random misfire problem codes on 2 different cylinders and the car runs like ^&&$% when it s doing that.. so after some reading i decided to order some new coil packs. Does this mean that i only order those plastic looking pipe things that go over the sparkplugs or do they come with cabkles and do the cables need to be replaced too?

thanks

Move the coilpacks around and see if the misfires change with the movements. If they do its the coilpacks. If not, try new spark plugs. They're good to change as regular maintenance and could get rid of your problem. I've seen both BKR6E and BKR7Es being recommended. Gap them to about .028" and see if it fixes your problem. Should only cost like $10 at Advance Auto Parts or NAPA or whatever.

i had a very similar problem.
i believe the 'plastic things over the spark plugs' you are talking about are the rubber coil boots. you may want to look at those as they can start to crack and lose conductivity. this happened with mine and i had all sorts of misfires. i changed all four and it still ran like shit (but a lot better than before) so i tried a new coilpack on cyl 2 and it solved everything. so i went ahead and ordered 4 coilpacks and coil boots to make sure i wouldnt have this problem any more

sorry -- i have a 2.8, and I knew where they were on my 1.8t, i meant to ask if the 2.8 has them as an issue.
thanks though
