View Full Version : Doing my timing belt, maybe

My dad and I took the front end off and I took the timing belt cover off and I see the word JAPAN. Its on the black ring on one of the pulleys (see pics). Was this part not made in germany, and therefore my timing belt was changed previously? Also, my serpentine belts look pretty fresh as you can see. So my question is, was my timing belt done?


If not I'll replace everything but i'm also doing a k04 upgrade with fmic and injectos and what not.

oh yea, on the side of that pulley it says 00 9 26. Is this a manufacturing date because on my corresponding new part it says 07 1 8. september 26, 2000 vs. january 8, 2007?

This may sound stupid, but trying looking anywhere around the engine bay or on the inside of the hood. Do you need a sticker with a mileage written on it?

what do you mean, when the audi dealership does a timing belt, they put a sticker somewhere with the milage of the car when it was done?

When I did my timing belt, the kit came with a sticker to put the mileage the belt was replaced.

I haven't seen anything like that. Does anybody know how often the serpentine belts should get replaced or are they mostly only done with the timing belt?

Do the serp belt with the tb. Only other time to replace it would be if it had a defect.

fuck it, I'm doing it anyways. I got the ECS TB kit so I'm set with all the parts. you can close this thread.

My first thoughts are that your A/C and serpentine belt does not look too bad. The tensioner pulley appears fairly new too. However, the actual condition of these components can not be determined visually, so I would definitely replace all the belts in addition to the timing belt tensioner while you have it all out in the open.

the tensioner i what usually goes bad. When i replaced mine timing belt at 70k my belts looked perfect

those are most likely replacements. my originals has bearing seals that said "italy" on them, and my repalcement parts had japanses bearings. the belts look really fresh too.

I don't know now. It would be nice to sell the kit and get some cash back but it would also be nice for when I sell the car to know when the TB was done.

seriously, do it for the sake of not thinking about it. I know when i hit the 60k miles mark where people reccomened that i change it, I felt like I was driving a ticking time bomb.

we just finished everything

-Timing belt (my water pump was actually going to shit so it was good I did change everything)
-P&P exhaust manifold
-RaceTec FMIC (which was the biggest pain in the ass)

no CEL's which I am very happy about but I need more coolant so I can't drive it around to test the difference. My dad and I spent about 13 total hours on this setup. All I need to do is put the 380cc injectors in, somehow make the 3" TT MAF fit and finally get the software.

oh yea, I hit my head on the sharp ass corner of the fender where the head light is and it put a big hole on the top of my head. It bled down my forehead for about 4 hous but I didn't want to go to the hospital cause I wanted to finish the setup. lol
