Alright guys its time for me to upgrade my headlights.
Iv got a 1998 audi a4

My stock headlights are terrible at night and its dangerious driving on the highways...
so i want to upgrade..iv been searching and it seems like valeos are the best quality product out there (yes..no??).

it looks like im going to renn-art (in chicago) to buy these and have them put it on..i really dont want to mess with the fenders myself.

So...i decided this when i had to make an appointment to replace the timing belt ect. and found out that it is crazy expensive. If im throwing almost 2 g's into the car..then mine as well upgrade a few other things. I dont think i want to spend the extra money to get xeons...just the reuglar valeos is what i want...

so the main question is will i see a huge difference from stock to non-xeon valeo headlights??
Any input would be nice...im wanting to get this done ASAP so please help me out.

Thanks everybody.

Yes, you will. Valeos are OEM, and even without Xenon, you will have a projector and a cutoff. Plus, HID is a very easy upgrade down the line, just buy the kit, plug it in and you're good. I would try and install them yourself tho; they're probably gonna bend you over on labor...

yea i know...if i heard him right its like 180 to install...but i dont have the tools or anything where im at right now so im kinda stuck...

im thinking about getting springs to lower my car so maybe if i do all that stuff at once they can give me a lil break.

$180?! Holy crap man, you're better off just buying a dremel, doing it yourself, and keeping it for future projects... The install would probably take around 15-20 minutes if even...

ive done the wiring myself and used a very very very coarse sander to take off the metal part around the fenders to clear the 1-pieces. all-in-all, it's not that hard. just follow the directions, you'll be fine. it took me around 2 hours, but im kind of slow. just make sure to use butt-connectors and wrap heatshrink around all the connections. i did heat shrink then used electric tape. i guess i was paranoid, but it's really not all that bad. you could probably get a sleeve or something to the same effect.

the wiring is 7 wires i think per side, all of which are color-coded so you know what is what. i think you have to tap a another wire for something, but i cant remember what. a harness from either awe or ecs will help a WHOLE LOT.

when ur cutting or sanding down the fender, just go a little at a time until the lights fit in nice and easy. don't wanna overdo it there cuz the opening my end up being too big.

key is, follow the directions, you'll be fine.

btw, if you want pics or anything, just post what you need and id be glad to get pics of whatever i can...

That should be all you need, I think. Not sure because I bought mine for a facelift A4, so mine were just plug n play [:p]. Always check the classifieds first, tho. I got a perfect set of Valeo ecodes w/ a 6500k HID kit already installed for $400 shipped.

Yeah, for $180 you could pick up a $45 angle grinder (the best tool for the job), maybe $30(?) for the wiring kit, and $105 to put towards saving for an HID kit [:)]

TH85, you can do most of that stuff(lights) by yourself.

I'd be willing to help. I've got most of the tools in my garage.

I bought my set of valeo ecodes off ebay for $300 and HID for 200 and installed myself with lots of help from mike(a4frced). I've even got extra wires to do the install on pre-facelift cars.

The sidemarkers are cake. Just Push (using a credit card works good) from the back of car to front of car on them. They just pop back in.

hey im mid-install on this - putting 2k s4 housings in my 98 a4. what do people do about the headlight levelling motors?

i've been searching hi n lo and havent seen a word about this. everyone either installs hid housings in cars that are already hid, or installs xenon housings and hid converts them.

thanks...

IIRC thats what the lenses will look like...take a look from a different angle, the color of the lense will change based on the angle you look at them.

I'm also trying to find answers on this since I just bought 1-piece hid headlights for my 98. I noticed that the lights I took off my car(2-piece) have a 5-wire harness, and the plug on the new 1-piece has 7 wires coming out. Anyone have a wiring diagram as to how to wire up the newer headlights to the old harness?
