So I'll be chipping the car soon, and I know you guys hate chip questions but at least I narrowed it down for you [:p]. Both GIAC and REVO have distributors near me, so that's not a question. The guy at EIP Tuning, which is the REVO distributor nearest me, told me that REVO used to own GIAC or something like that, so they're basically the same. But which do you guys prefer? I think EIP quoted me at around $475 installed for the REVO and Dyno Sport quoted me low $500 for GIAC X installed. What's the better chip?

Revo never owned Giac!!!
i would go with the GIAC just off of GP

revo is reverse engineered apr code,

Giac was programmed from scratch

keep that in mind when selecting your product.

So what does that say about the program or mean to me?

its all a rumor... (regarding REVO)

software is software.. revo offers a free trial.. the 2 programs are not going to be significantly different in what they do.. just minor differences (one may be more agressive, one may be smoother, etc)

edit:
i had originally said "i'd be more inclined to tell you to get GIAC just so you dont have to deal with EIP" but then i realized you were talking about EIP Racing and not EIP Tuning (east coast, maryland)

sorry..

general principle in all likelyhood. FWIW the X-chip for the 2001.5 is seriously aggressive and very smooth. It is by far my FAV K03 software. Others with 2001's will attest to this.

I would ask yourself what you plan to do in the future with your setup. For the B5 not all chip makers have profiles for all turbo setups. Like K05 or BT's.

I originally went with APR on my B5, loved them but when I got my K04 they did not have a profile for me so I went with GIAC. Again GIAC has been great but if I was to do it over again I would of done GIAC first so I would of received a discount when upgrading to K04 software.

If you even remotely would consider upgrading your turbo definitely make sure you look at upgrade paths for each chip maker for your car.

Go with Dahlback if you've got a 2001....It's got the power of a GIAC-x file combined with the smoothness of APR....and free lifetime upgrades!....can't go wrong there

I say GIAC, I had an APR 1.0 bar chip and I was impressed with the improvement of the flash setup I now have.

the files are so similar that i would say go with the dealer that you feel you will get the proper support from..

you could try them out also.. ride in other ppls cars and stuff.
