Hi,

just wondered if anyone has idea of price difference between going with a K04 and bigger turbos such as t3 super 60...

k04 can be done for a grand used, bt anywhere from 2500 to 5000 for most of the turbo setups people on here are running

the price difference comes int he fueling package and the supporting hardware.

You can slap on a k04 with basic software and call it a day.

with a big turbo set up you will need a FMIC, exhaust, and an expensive fueling package and a clutch. If you car is already set up with supporting mods, its not gonna cost that much to go BT over a k04

most ko4 software's call for a FMIC, Exhaust, FPR/injectors, and HFC, but can be done without those....my set up total cost $2,400 including:
-Milltek exhaust
-Eurospec adjustable FPR
-Racetec FMIC
-Borg warner KO4

...not too bad if you ask me

and everything is brandy new!

since you don't require a fmic - cause you are ndbw - you can buy my setup

a BT set up will cost you a pretty penny - i just put my kit together

tune - 750
turbo gtrs - 1500
intake - 350 which is the filter, maf, and the intake itself
test pipe - 250
fmic - 1000
exhaust manifold - 300
clutch - 1000-1500 - give or take the clutch and having someone install for you
fueling - 350 adj fpr and injectors

so you are looking at 5K plus easily

vs. a 1K used K04-kit which you won't need the supporting mods like fmic, and a new intake set up, injectors, and such

or you can but it new from awe - for 1700.

we sell our kits for 3500$ wich includes eurodyne.ca software, 630cc, bigger maf, gt28s , all lines etc etc

at 20psi makes 300WHP and just ran today 13.26@104.63mph in my passat wagon 1.8Tspeed with slicks.

wow that is a deal - bump for that
apr is asking 5K for the same thing

but still will need a clutch - and up there you don't require a fmic that badly - us in socal it gets hot and turbo does not like the air too much - you guys have higher octane 91 here too - so owning a turbo car is bad times in socal - ahaha

I have the same set up instead it is gtrs - and i doubt I will get 300whp to the wheels with pump gas

still need to get a new clutch soon if the guy has a stock one - won't hold 300whp for long

still doesn't include a fmic, exhaust or clutch.

still its a nice deal for one stop shopping essentially. With 300whp i think you could do a little better then 13.3

clutch price is a killer,

how long does the clutch usually last before it needs replacing when the engine is near stock? - for normal maintenance. Cos might need to replace the clutch even if don't go with BT. I'd prob go a front mount with a K04, even now with my Audi chipped I notice when the intercooler gets hot.

depends on how you drive - my stock clutch is on 120K and it is still in good shape. Going BT would make the clutch go out pretty quick - yah you would be looking to get a front mount - so you don't get heat soaked.

originally I was dreaming of t3/t4 super40, but the K04 is tempting, I already have the apr/oettinger chip so I can upgrade with k04.

And I'd like to fit a front mount too...

You can get a nice sized FMIC for much less than 1000.

You can see it's very popular to not spend $1000. And depending on the software for your K04, it IS recommended that you get a FMIC.

I live in Australia, APR told me they bought out Oettinger, so when I got my A4 chipped they said I could use a 'Oettinger' branded chip or 'APR', they said the software was exactly the same.

Also worth noting that oettinger advertises something like 143kw but APR advertises at around 150kw, they said the germans measure the hp differently than other countries - like the US I think.

so oettinger makes a KO4 file?? I had no idea

You would be much better off getting a good core and doing the piping yourself.

looks like I'll def be going BT, just found out my clutch is on it's way out, so got to change it. probly go with Spec stage 2+ to handle maybe 400lb-ft at the crank, but still be good daily driver.

I want to put in hi flow metal core cat, downpipe, exhaust prob not bigger than 2.5 inch, don't want too obtrusive sound.

Poopie

I do not recommend SPEC. Clutchmasters and Southbend are pretty popular and can pretty much handle anything on the bolt on market.

Why? Could you provide some kind of literature that says the "good cores" are worth the extra $700 than an eBay core?

Not being a smartass, actually asking.

Intercoolers, like most everything else, follow the 80/20 rule. You get 80% of the performance for 20% of the price. If you are satisfied with that level of performance then get the cheap one. If you want to maximize the efficiency and reliability of the system it'll cost you more.

being awd the a4 will make less power than the fwd passat.
BTW Iv'e seen faster fwd passats. A guy working at my local shop waldenburg performance had a b5 passat making 400whp on a gt30.
