I recently purchased a 1996 Audi A4 2.8L Quattro. I got for cheap, because it has 126,000 miles (202,000 kms) on it. Now, the previous owner and the owner before him did quite a bit of mainteance on it. I believe it had time belt, coolant belt, plugs, inner/outer tie rod ends, control arms, water pump, and little more [wrench] done. Now my questions are that:

1. The acceleration is really slow from a stop. Is that normal?

2. The temp gauge is at 100'C~ ?

3. Do you think the vehicle would last 2 or more years with city driving and normal mainteance?

Thanks for your time.

1. It only has 172HP and isn't exactly a light car.

2. Is it stuck at 100C? I used to have a 96 2.8, and always had trouble with the CTS, but it would say the engine is cold rather than hot...

3. The 12v 2.8's are very reliable engines, and will last quite a long time with proper maintenance. Just take care of your baby, and she'll take care of you.

I've never driven a stock 1.8T, so I don't know what 150HP feels like (bought my car already chipped). But yeah, if it feels slow, then something is probably wrong. First thing that comes to mind is to check the air filter.

if it hasnt had the timing belt done more than once, you should probably do it again since you have 120,000 miles on it; and they should be done about every 60k.

Sea foam your car, replace the fuel filter and check the air induction for clog ups (air filter, piping)

thanks for your replies,

also I think it might be either leaking or burning oil.

I had the oil light come up, and I put in a quart or so in and it came back up again after 2 gas fills.

Does 2.8L engines burn a bit of oil, but I don't see any smoke from the rear.
