View Full Version : Carbotech XP10 pads.... questions for track use

Currently I am using Hawk HPS pads which are great for the street, but suck on the track due to their low heat rating, talk about brake fade. I was referred by many local people to the Carbotech XP10's which seem like a rock solid brake pad.

My questions now are as follow:

Do I need to run these all around, or can I just run XP10's upfront and HPS's on the back?

Do I NEED to turn the rotors before I put the new pads on?
What would/could happen if I don't?

All info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

There is nothing wrong with running different pads front and back...in fact, that is one way to tune brake bias without an adjustable proportioning valve - using pads with different coefficients of friction front and rear.

I would, however, recommend at least turning the rotors before switching pads. Part of the bedding process leaves traces of the pad material embedded in the rotor, and mixing a rotor bedded with one compound and a pad of another compound can have unpredictable results.

IMHO, FWIW...

According to Carbotech's own FAQ, this is an absolute MUST:
