225/40/18 is the appropriate size for the stretched look. I hope you are lowered cause that will look pretty bad on stock ride height

I run 205's on 8.5's but thats not for most people....

Alot depends on the tire, they all strech different. I run Falken 512's and love them. Toyo's strech very well also.

But dont strech for looks, thats dumb. Do it because you need to.

I should be getting coilovers for it soon as well so it is because I want it slammed (not as much as you though!)

I have a sick stretch on 225's But then again, my rims are 9" wide (rear)

FYI: mine stretch maybe 40% more than the pictured setup

Not to downplay you but 225 on a 9 isnt sick strech by any means....

I have 215 on a 9.5/10 and its still not even what I consider "sick"

Ha tell me about it man, I spend most of my time driving watching the actual road, Seeing that the car is lower than in the pics.

I also need some spacers for the front id have to go 8mm i think

Streching the tires make you not rub. It allows you to push the wheels out without rubbing.

You need some spacers up front for sure.

8-10mm should do just fine.

I have 15mm up front on stock ET.

depends what kind of stretched look you are going for.. i suggest you go to vwvortex mkiv forum and check out any thread there...you'll get to see all kinds of stretches.

as for 8.5, you might want to go with 205s to get that nice stretched look. 225 on 8.5 looks like ass imo.. 235 on 8.5 is perfect i think, look below:

just out of curiosity, what is the stretched look and why do people want it?

Poopie
06-20-2007, 09:42 PM
stretched look is when the tire width is not wide enough to span across the width of the rim. The tire will stretch outwards to form the bead seal on the rim. With a regular mounted tire the tire wall is perpendicular to the ground. On some slammed cars the stretched look gives the car and even more slammed look i guess. My tires are stretched because I would have rubbing issues.

^^ Basically.
It allows one to run wider wheels at differnt offsets then they would if the car was at stock height.

i.e. My car.
When I got the wheels.
17x8.5 et 22 235/45/17
17x9.5 et18 265/45/17

Gross.

http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g8/blownbunny/021.jpg
rubbing much?
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g8/blownbunny/Picture023.jpg
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g8/blownbunny/Picture068.jpg

Then.
17x8.5 et 22 205/45/17
17x9.5 et 18 215/45/17
No spacers, same wheels 100%

Yuper, I ran 225/40/18 inch Perellis on my rims... looks real nice, but be careful you dont curb your rims to hell
