YEAH WOW!!! It's in my Avant! GOOD GOD!

Custom faceplate, incorporating the stock chrome trim. Got the Ipod cable which allows me to charge my iPod, play movies and music, the bluetooth unit so I can use my phone w/ the D3. The mic is currently hidden but it muffles the sound a bit so I'll have it repositionned. Also got the XM Navtraffic tuner. The pics show the faceplate trim to be off color, but in real life, it's actually dead on black like the rest of the car.

Pics were taken at night in my garage. Funny, it doesn't look all dusty and crappy in real life. Flash brings out the trash!

eh, not bad, but I don't like how there's all that plastic that isn't matching the rest.

should've gone OEM RNS-E.

Nah, the plastic as you call it, DOES match the rest. It's only because the flash is making it look whack. Trust me, in person, it's dead on and it looks great. RNS-E...eh....cost too much and won't do as much. The biggest thing for me was XM and not some ghetto rigged xm tuner inputted into another unit (ie RNS-E).

oh, btw old man. . . I know the wood-grain trim looks nice in your caddy, but in a performance car, it's all aluminum or cf.

I think it looks good.... better then mine anyway.... I have had some trouble getting mine to look and sound perfect....

Do you have any accelerator noise or anything? Mine just doesn't sound very good...

The Godfather

yeah I have engine noise. It's gonna be gone soon anyway once I replace the speakers and amps.

nice work, i like the custom one piece dash rather than how i got mines right now...i don't know if it's the lighting, but the faceplate seems to be a diff shade from the rest of the trim...other than everything looks clean!

The trim was custom made. A4B7, the color looks off in the pic, but w/ the naked eye and in real life, it looks just perfect :)

I had it installed on mine last Sat.. but I just have to pick up the custom faceplate.

I can't play vcd if they are not divx.. do you guys have this issue too or is it my unti mal functioning?

Sound is hard to match our shitty speakers. Too midrangy and uncontrolable bass. But Pioneer is not known for it's sound.
The GPS is amazing by the way..

Please post a pic with the Pioneer playing a movie from the VPOD! That would seal the deal for me. Does it work with our factory speaker and amp system?

lol the ipod playing movies is such a cool feature on the D3! I love it! And yes it works w/ the stock system. My subwoofer is sooooo loud now it's ridiculous! I love it!

IMHO RNS-E all the way, im not a big fan of these cheap aftermarket faceplates. Audi is too classy for that.

Even if the functionality surpasses by far? Think logically here. Style and class are a factor when choosing where to put your money, but IMHO he is the one that'll be sitting in his car. Let him be happy with his many functions, rather than some overly priced HU that will just look more flush.

Great job btw. You do need to take more pictures though to prove to us that the colors match :)

Nothing will look cleaner than the RNS-E or another Audi OEM unit. BUT, the RNS-E is a POS functionality wise compared to the aftermarket units.

I disagree completely. CF for the Rs4 is fine. I think CF looks wack as fuck in the A4, esspecially over done like the picture of the CF all over the surround thats in this thread. Its okay to have MINOR CF accents on the outside of the car, lips, spoilers, etc, but on the interior, im a BIG fan of that wood trim thats in The Godfathers car. I've loved it in the B5 S4's ever since I can remember.

godfathers looks good, but the recessed one adds a little bit more interest and removes the vacantness of the surrounds. however, after looking at it again, it kind of makes it look like the surrounds were made for a different sized headunit because of the recessed bit. still looks good, those are just my thoughts.

and a question, what is the button on the left of the hazard lights button for? not the ESP one, the one that has 2 little rectangles as the logo.

Can you tell us what trim package you used for this install? It is the best one I've seen posted here.

Thanks,

I have not seen the OEM version. can anyone tell me where i can find a picture of that? this one that Audi4Style has is nice. From what i gather (i am a new S4 owner and am new at this whole thing), it is between the Pioneer Avic D3 and the RNS e if you are after a bluetooth compatible system and an IPOD controller, right?

you guys w/ the avic d3 and a b6/b7 a4.............did you have to get a custom bracket made to mount the unit inside the dash? i ask b/c the install sheet says take the existing bracket off the oem head unit and simply resuse it on the avic d3. well...the oem unit bracket goes around the whole oem radio. let's say it doesn't look like a simple unbolt and rebolt job. i really want to install this unit myself but if i have to take it to a shop i guess so!

So does anyone know where I can get this trim kit? I bought my Avic D3 and it's sitting on my desk until I can find this kit. The other one is way too flat. Someone please help!

I asked the guy who installed this one and never received a response. I think the trim ring and the mounting kit are different than the kit that pioneer sells. The Pioneer kit doesn't sit flush like that. The outer trim piece is sold by metra.

Finally got to install the trim around the unit. Had the unit installed a few months ago but never took the time to cut the trim to fit the dash.

Sorry for not taking the time to clean the trims
