When i shift from 1st to 2nd it makes a loud metallic click, and somtimes when i shift from 3rd to 4th as well. (at low rpm) example: waiting for engine to warm up so I will slow shift from 1st to 2nd at 3k rpm and when I put the shifter into 2nd without even engaging the clutch yet it will make the loud sound. (no its not grinding and yes i push the clutch to the floor)
this doesnt happen everytime but it happens regardless if the engine is warm or cold.
- do any of you guys have a similiar situation? is it somthing that i should take it to the dealer for?

My trans is notchy when its really cold (goes away when warm) or when running the a/c. Nothing is better than driving in moderately warm weather with the climate control off. I've never owned a manual yet that wasn't notchy in some sort of weather.
If you're experiencing this problem all of the time and it doesn't go away it might be your synchro. Others have posted similar problems. Take it in for a service and get the problem on record.

I have a similar issue with my 6MT and I took it to the dealer to have them check it out. They said it's normal for it to be a bit notchy, especially in the upshifts (1st, 3rd, 5th).

Get a snub mount, it sorta helps improve the shifting feel. It doesn't exactly "kill" the notchyness but it does keep the engine from excessively moving around so that upshifts and downshifts go in seemingly smoother.

If I were you I'd go to the dealer and ask them to adjust the shifter itself. Your shifter may be out of alignment slightly allowing it to bottom out on the pivot bushing when shifting into 2nd and 4th. I'm sorry I can't explain this better, but if you watch the install video for the JHM Solid Shifter, it demonstrates what I'm speaking about.
It's just something to try. I could be totally off base here. [rolleyes]
I too have a VERY notchy 2nd gear and a slightly notchy 3rd gear. 2nd is so bad for me that it's starting to make want to get rid of the car. I'm VERY unhappy with this 6mt. I'm going to do what my service guy said and just drive the thing until it breaks. I'm just going to drive it for another year or so until I find something else that I want to drive (and maybe it won't be an Audi). [:(]

I sadily agree, when my lease ends in 16 months i was planning on getting either a new A4/S4 6spd but now im leaning towards getting a tiptronic

also, so the metallic sound is caused by the notchiness? it can be heard outside the car
