View Full Version : Custom brake kit update ......

Well here are some pictures of the updated front brake kit that I pieced together. I used the ECS Tuning bracket and had it machined down so that I could use a Porsche 911 caliper with an ECS Tuning 13.1" 2 piece floating rotor. There were 2 reasons for doing this upgrade:

1) I got the calipers for a good price and was able to powder coat them w/o any downtime.

2) The 911 has a greater contact area on the pad than the Porsche Boxster.

You'll notice that the pad now sits closer to the center hat than in the previous pictures so I now have more pad to rotor area contact. I had the bracket machined down 3/8 of an inch but I can still go another 1/16 - 1/8 if needed but I'll just have to wait and see how this works out.

It took a little more work than I had expected but the end result was worth the effort as you can see in the pictures. Next will be the B6 S4 upgrade as the same machine shop is making me some custom billet brackets to fit the rears. This will be a much easier upgrade and if anyone is interested I can have some extra brackets made for anyone who wishes to do the same rear upgrade.

Here are the front pictures and the rears will be up by this weekend.

Very nice. Which model 911 are the calipers from?

The calipers are from a 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera (non turbo)

The rear brakes are from ECS Tuning and are made for the B6/B7 chassis but it bolts up to our car and all I had to do was order the rear braided lines for a B6 and have the brackets made to give me the correct spacing so that the brakes were centered.

The kit from ECS is a 11.8" 2 piece floating rotor and the caliper is a stock Audi item. I'll have the completed pictures by this weekend of the entire brake job and thanks for all the positive comments

Hey Fred

Is the caliper from an S4 or are you using your stock A4 caliper? Thanks for all the info.

It would have to be an S4 caliper since their vented rotors are much thicker than our solid ones.

This is correct. There is nothing special about this kit except for the fact that I had some billet spacers made so that the kit would bolt up correctly to my car. You can buy this kit from ECS Tuning complete and have some spacers made and order the rear brake lines and you would be set.

Once my spacers are finished, (hopefully today) I will post the thickness specs for anyone who wants to duplicate this rear BBK.

fred2ka4 How do you like the ECS two piece rotors now that you have had them on a wile. Do they seem durable? I have a set of B7 S4 calipers for my B6 A4 and Im thinking about these rotors to save rotating weight.

The brakes have worked flawlessly over the past year and I have not had any issues, with the exception that they could not have stopped me soon enough to avoid getting hit. Although it was his fault and he did come out of no where.

Here are a few shots of the rears as requested, although I do think the rears are posted somewhere else.

Be careful, inspect that caliper bracket often. They have been known to crack even at full thickness.

Interesting. I like how you took the premade ECS brackets and made them work for what you wanted.

Looks great. I like the contrast between the black rotor hats and the red calipers.
