View Full Version : pc-16 vs mbc?

I recently installed a fmic on my '97, and noticed a slight drop in my max boost. Now apparently that's not unusual, but what disappointed me more was the slight drop in performance. It's supposed to make my car -faster- ! Right?

So here's the question. After I'm done checking for boost leaks, do I go pc-16, or just run a mbc in parallel with the n75?

With a manual boost controller, I could jack up the boost to 20 psi, have a noticeable increase in power, without terrible heatsoak due to my new fmic doing its job. Price ~ 20$ or something, compared to ~300$ for upgrading to pc-16.

So my question is, what is the difference between the two? Won't my standard k04 chip notice the increase in boost and adjust fuel and timing accordingly? How is this any different then the pc-16, and why? I'm really hoping someone can explain to me in great details about A/F ratios, timing, fuel pressure and injectors, etc...

go pc-16 you will regret it if you dont

pc-16 also alters timing, starts the A/F where it should be, the boost will be higher as stated, etc.

it should be less than 200 dollars to go from standard k04 to pc-16

we are talking hardware vs software.

pc16 is an increase in timing/fuel/boost.

mbc is just a dial for boost...its not even close to the same thing.

^^ Agreed... think about your timing curve!

i have the pc16 and a MBC right now. with my voodooIII mbc, full boost (i have18psi set) comes on VERY QUICK! so you feel all that torque down low - almost instant really... also, i would recommend you get an adj FPR to tune for the added boost...

you might have a boost leak, my car felt much faster and I hardly lost any boost
