Need Help with Custom Ram Air Intake

So their is "hole" in my bumper on the right side directly under the headlight. The previous owner hit the curb and the bumper cracked. I plan to clean up the edges of the hole so it is approx. 4x4 in. I'm then going to route the piping to the hole and attach a cone filter, then weld in some mounting brackets. So my questions are:

Do I need to drill holes for any sensors? What has to hook up to the piping? Do I need the MAF or can i directly connect to the engine? Any pictures or links would be great.
