Fog light assembly

So i'm driving home today and all of sudden i get a warning light that my front right fog light is out. I changed them to the Hoen H11's about a week ago so i'm thinking something is loose. I get home to look and the glass lens on the fog light assembly is shattered in pieces. I take a closer look and the bulb is also blown up. Now what are the chances that a rock hit the fog lens glass and shattered it or was it the bulb blowing up causing the fog light lens to shatter? This sux...car just made 1000 miles and i already gotta deal with shit like this. Anyone know the part number or where i can get an oem assembly for cheap?

Wow, were you able to find any glass pieces from the bulb? Did you check the bulb filament? Looking for charred (carbon) on the bulb glass it would indicated if it blew up. Or you should be able to tell if the bulb filament had melted or so.

Take some pics of the bulb filament, that could tell us whether your foglight was destroyed by a rock or if the entire thing blew out.

im no expert, but i would sincerely say that i looks like something hit your light from the outside. i think that even if the bulb did blow up for some reason, it wouldnt have the energy to break apart your fog light like that. i think you just had an unfortunate accident with your foglight man.

agreed. definately looks like the assembly got hit by a rock or an object of some sort and the bulb looks like it shorted out due the the melted filament.

lol, well, it looks like the filament burned out but at the same time something else destroyed your fog light housing's cover.

Depending on how high your deductible is, it might be worth it to get your insurance to cover it. Making a comprehensive claim like this shouldn't make your insurance go up either.

You guys have to think that even the bulbs don't shatter like that if there was a hater who bashed it. It had to have exploded

I think the fog light got shattered by a rock (being kicked up by a truck)or something similar on the road and then because of atmospheric exposure, or a puddle, the light bulb burst.

Why would a "hater" go for the fogs when theres a beautiful paint job to key without even having to bend down?

IMO it's gotta be a rock. Then again you'd think he would have heard something that big smashing into his fog like that.

Well this happened a while ago and i've since replaced it. I bought a new set of the Hoen H11's and i went to touch the fog lights tonight and the lens was hot as hell. I wonder if the heat of the glass with a combination of cold rain/puddle could have caused it to shatter?

sorry to post in this ancient topic but,,, this same thing happened to me with hoen's xenonmatch, But it was the first day i had my car so i swiched my stockers back in and went to the audi dealer and they gave me a free new fog light.
