Well I have decided to get rid of the Carbonio intake and in it's place will go a custom intake made by me. The piping will be 3" mandrel bent pipe powder coated to a brilliant polished shine. Here is a list of the pieces that I will be using.

1) 3" mandrel bent stainless steel tubing

2) Stillen velocity stack

3) Blitz stainless steel intake

4) Silicone hoses and T-clamps

The intake will have a 3" to 2.75" reducer hose to connect to the factory MAF but will have the ability to switch to a 3" MAF as a future upgrade. I will be welding a bracket onto the piping to support the intake and bolt it to the usual spot on the inner fender and I will be using this intake with a true heat shield.

I'll post some pictures of the finished product as soon as it is completed and installed, but here are some pics of the parts.

how does the velocity stack connect to the filter?

The velocity stack is 6" in diameter and the filter has a 6" opening.

Nothing, I just want something different and a fully polished intake pipe and all metal intake filter would be considered different, especially the way I am doing it.

As far as the Carbonio filter, it is in very good condition.

1) 3" mandrel bent 180 - $35

2) Stillen intake with velocity stack $200 (I bought this for my Senta a long time ago so I still had it lying around)

3) Silicone couplers with T-clamps - $60

I live in Brentwood in the Bay Area which is about 450 miles away from you, but if you want to come up that's fine by me ...... [:D]

I had a Sentra before. I had the SE-R with the SR20de so I added a t25 setup from the bluebird motor (SR20DET w/ top mount intercooler). Sorry for getting off topic, you mentioned sentra and I got a little nostalgic. LOL, I miss that car.

You and me both and being that it is my thread and I also had a SR20 SE-R (not DET) it's ok with me that you can reminisce. And I also miss my SE-R but I love my current car. I'm just glad to know that a little of the soul that made my SE-R will now breath in the lungs of my new toy.

Excuse me while I get some tissue ......... [=(] ..............

Ok, I'm back .......................... [a4] [:D] [up]

what does the velocity stack do?

I'm not 100% sure what it will do for the Audi, but it's designed to smooth out the air flow going to the MAF on my Sentra so that it gets a better reading, so I am hoping that it will work the same on the Audi.

so its not necessary? Where did you get your pipe mandrel bent at? just a local shop?

From what I have seen on other cars that have MAF's, I think it will work great. As for the pipe you can either buy it or order it from just about any muffler shop and even ebay. I don't think there are too many shops with mandrel benders, in California anyway, as they are VERY expensive.

what you should do, is make your own custom intake package, and sell it since every other intake in the world for 1.8's are pretty spendy.. eh eh?

I had thought about that once for about 3 seconds and then moved past it ......... [:D]

The reason I say that is because by the time I do all the cutting, welding, fabricating, and powder coating plus having to buy hoses, t-clamps and the filter and charge enough to make it worth my while, the price would be right up there with the pricey ones.

But believe it or not, I am still considering it because I think I could still make it less expensive and better.

I did the same thing.... I went to a local shop that sold intercooler piping and picked one of the 3" 180* aluminum for $18, it turns out that with the GTRS the 180* pipes diameter plus the placement of the turbo it didnt work out. so I cut the 180* pipe about 3/4 of the way through the 180* part then put a 3" 90* silicone hose. then after that goes the K&N filter....

I think it works great.

the sound of the DV is so loud it sounds like a BOV (kinda annoying I wanted the car to be a sleeper )...

oh well

good luck.....

I will try to post up some pics tomorrow... I got to get ready for German invasion.

I'd be very interested in seeing the pictures of your set-up. I am going to have the 180 sectioned in the middle and re-welded so that it will have a little tighter radius, so that will give me the room I need to make it all work.

yeah, what is the measurement of the pipe, from the outside of before the 180 to the outside of after the 180? if it is ~11" it is not going to fit, at least with an eliminator set-up. I will post pics later tonight, after I put my wastegate arm back on....

do you have any maf logs of the carbonio, then with your custom setup?

No and since the Carbonio is gone I will be unable to comapare the two. This intake does seem to respond a little better and the GReddy bov is louder but other than that no real data logs.

I have however recieved a lot of compliments on the design ............ [:D]

If that counts for anything ........... [rolleyes]
