OK, First what type of bulb do you have? Xenon or Halogen? Big Difference in the PITA involved.

I take mine to the dealership - have a coffee while my car is fixed and washed.
but my dealership is only 10-15 minutes away

I looked once around the headlight and it's too complicated. Let the dealership do it.

I don't think there is a super easy way to do it, it's one of those things that takes a little work the first time then after that you can do it drunk. I basically just wiggle the bulb until it comes out, swap, put in new one. The passenger side requires removing part of the intake, but no biggie. If you have big hands like myself I say you coax a smaller person into helping you out

Its not that hard, a set of needle nose pliers gets those bulbs out pretty easy.

HOld on....

why is it so easy to change a burnt out headlight bulb...

but to do a clear corner job, it takes soo much sh*tttt?

Ummm... because you have to remove the bumper to remove your headlight and bake your headlight assembly and pop out the lens then do that backwards. Yup pretty easy...

Trust me, it's not that easy. If you opened up your hood, and looked in, you would think it was difficult. One you get your hand in there and move around to try and pull it out, you then think it is impossible. Took me weeks until I decided to take it to audimods and get it done. It is possible, however. I saw the guy try for 10-15 mins on each bulb and he finally popped them out. And this is a guy who's done it dozens of times.

It's a flipping disaster.
You have take off the bumper and four hex bolts one being very close to fender so little dude hands come in handy. And mine aren't little. I loosend up the mineral oil resevoir to get to it. Pain in the ass for replacing a daytime running light.

If the bulbs aren't burnt out and I just wanted to replace them with new white silverstar halogen bulbs, will I be charged if I take it to the dealer?

i did it in my apartments parking lot before i did the bi-xenon conversion. it's not that hard, just takes a little patience. forget paying the dealer spend 30 minutes doing it.

ps i do not have little hands

Are there any instructions on how exactly to do it? Tried searching and tried reading the manual already...

i'm sure there are, but i think you can figure it out without them. from what i remember the biggest pain is actually getting the bulbs out of their mounting postions, which requires a sort of pulling on an angle. they basically just pop in and out, the problem is it "feels" like your gonna break something. i still have my halogen housings if someones in a real jam i can take pics.

Thanks for the quick reply man
I'd really appreciate it if you could.. I just got my new A4 a couple days ago and I'm still pretty paranoid about touching it..

Someone mentioned that the passenger-side bulb is alot harder to get to because you need to remove something...?

ya, the black rectangular duct that feeds into your airbox. it's really easy...there are two screws near the top of the grille that allow you to pull it out.

Sorry to resurrect this thread from the past but I was going to install some bulbs tonight, but when trying to remove the bulbs from the retaining ring I got stumped and was thinking I might break something if I tried to remove them. Whenever I tried to wiggle the bulb out of the retaining ring the whole inside of the housing would slightly wiggle along with it. Do I have to do anything with the 3 tabs along the retaining ring or do I just pull the bulb out?

i would save the trouble and take it to the dealer...

I'd like to see a pic of a bulb removed -might help me with how to pull and at what angle. I just want to replace the stock bulbs with some Silverstars and would rather not drive 30 miles to have a dealer do it. Anyone? [confused]

It's not hard. You just need to pop off the cover, get your hand in there, and pull straight out. The halogens are H7 bulbs. The tab on the H7 will be on the top, in order to line up with the housing. Just need small hands to get ahold of the bulb. I have changed my bulbs a couple of times.

For the passenger side, you have to remove the snorkel. There should be two screws at the front of it.

If you want to see what an H7 bulb looks like, google.

Ok - sounds like everything else I've read on this. I was just confused as to how to get the bulbs out but it just sounds like they pop in and out, no clip or holder to remove first like on my Mazda 3 H7s. Good to know [:D]

Yeah - it sure was - especially trying to switch out the turn signal bulbs - tore up my hands/knuckles good on those. Glad to hear the b7 is a bit easier! [:D]

Haha I can't believe you guys would take it to the dealer to get a halogen bulb replaced. [:p]

Just grab the socket connected to the bulb and wiggle it pops right out.

x2 ^^^ Yeah - that's some funny stuff. Must be nice to have that kind of money that you can have your headlights changed by a DEALER and not be bothered with a 5 minute procedure.

now how would you replace the fog lights. i just got a left bulb out the other day and need to fix it.

what is the wattage on the fog lights? I need to get the xenon ones because thats what the previous owner had in them. Brand? Website?

Thanks

there is a way to get to the fog light through the opening next to the fog, depending on what type of grille you have? I have a 3.2 so I had to take off my bumper to change the fogs. The bulbs are H11

do a search, I think with the sline you can do it right through the fog opening.
