The paint job you guys saw in my other thread* didn't come out to good, so I had the bodyshop refund me my deposit after being unsatisfied.

* http://audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123178

Ended up going to a new bodyshop (hard to find somebody that does a satin color) and have them redo the whole car. This is the reason this is taking so long.

The real pictures are coming after I finish the exterior, hopefully in about 2 weeks.

This is what is left:

- Paint needs to be wetsanded and compounded
- Wheels are getting redone in gloss jet black with a thin red lip
- New Tires are going on the wheels (
- The Audi emblems are getting redone gloss jet black
- The mesh gotta go on the bumber and grill
- The Kerscher CF Splitter is going on the bumper
- Tail Lights are getting smoked (sprayed) in Medium Dark gloss
- New Black Depo E-codes go on with my 8000K HIDS
- Smoked Sidemarkers

very very nice, diggin the entire look, it was similar to what i wanted to do a year ago but props for doing it, I may just have to copy it!, nah I won't copy the color but I'm really diggin the satin look big time after seeing it on an a4, i feel a new project in the next few weeks for me!

Satin is not difficult at all so it sucks the body shop screwed it up, i find it easier to do satin rather than full gloss, i did a F4i in satin wrx blue and then a full red-bull decal kit and it came out sick

I had a red lip on my GSR 15's on my Acura back in the day, painted the wheels gloss black. I got so many compliments on those wheels after I painted them. Old guys at the gas station would always say how they loved them, little did they know, I had about 6 hours, and $25 bucks into them.

Whats the exact name of the paint color you used? it looks so SICK!

EDIT: reread something about a satin color, is that the actual color name?

nizmosx

glad you ditched the red rings. wasnt feelin it. Make it so the only red accent on the car is the thin red line around the lip of rim. DO NOT PAINT THE INSIDE OF THE RIMS RED..... i think it was like that before. Give your rims a flat black or grey finish to match your car and do the red lip in gloss. ALSO get some red brembo brakes. That will set off your car insanely.

Satin isn't the color it's the finish of the clear coat, for example there is gloss, semi-gloss, and satin

When I paint satin I use PPG Flexed and Flat clear, from the can it has a 0% gloss finish (thats whats on the F4i I posted above) but you can also add high gloss clear (I think 5-50%) to the FLexed and FLat to increase the gloss without going full on high gloss finish. I love spraying in satin, to me it really brings out the true color of the paint b/c most paints look totally different when you spray the base compared to when you spray the clear

First off I want to thank everybody for supporting this paint job. I know its not a regular paint job and I know it's not everybodys style. Trust me I was the most sceptical out of all, but now that I see it in person it really does look good.

I'll try to take some daytime pics in a little bit so I can post them up tonight.

seank

- Honestly I was planning on the euro trunk but this paint job made me so broke its not even funny. [mad]

ceas

- Man it's been forever since you got my Dahlback chip. I can't believe this took so long. I'm glad you like it cuz I remember your face when I told you I might to the orange. [:D]

Still Lost

- I love the way the bike looks. I wish I had the resources to do a job like this myself but I don't even have a garage. I give you mad props for doing it and actually make it look really good.

Rosati

- You know I'm not the luckiest either with my car. 2 months of wait and it didn't come out good. Had to go to another body shop and my car is still not fully done [:(]. Trust me I know how you feel. But get that bitch running I can't wait to go for a ride.

GiacGRs4

- Yo I might come see you tomorrow. I might have to go see my cousins in Garfield and I'll give you a call. [:D]

Black97a4

- Your car is looking really good too. I hear you on the black cars getting dirty. In three days my car became filthy. It attracts all the dirt and bugs.

ProOnThaSnow

- I'm doing the same color theme on my wheels too. Gloss black with a thin red stripe. I bet they looked really good.

dgianneschi

- The name of the color is Schiefer Metallic of a 2005 Porsche. Toped with the flex and flat clear coat from PPG that Still Lost mentioned.

nizmosx

- The wheels are getting painted gloss black (inside is gonna be black too) with a thin gloss red stripe. I decided on the gloss because I feel the car needs a little more contrast.

good job man, glad you shaved off the trim as i did.

sorry i dont know the exact color because it was a number code, but the closest is like a pelican blue.

and the car was painted in my dads shop just a 40x60 garage. he showed me how to spray the primer on my bumper then i did the rest, 3 coat of primer, 4 coats of paint, 2 coats of clear coat. if a 17 year old could do it, im sure most of you could :)

The car is not even close to being finished yet. I was going to take the wheels to get done tomorrow but I think my transmission mount is going so I gotta go to the shop and check it tomorrow.

Hopefully everything will turn out allright and I can start the finishing of the body work.

- Now I have a question for everybody: The only red thing in the car is going to be the thin stripe on the wheels that are going to be painted gloss black; should I go for a darker red than this or same red?

Aliel
05-01-2007, 07:28 PM

around $3500 not considering the body parts, shaved moldings, painted door sills.

the brake calipers should all be red... and don't go too dark with the tail light tinting... if you do a lighter tint it will look kinda like a amulet red.. and maybe a TAD darker red on the strip on the wheels. Then it shall look perfect IMO :)

I probably would do the Flat Black with no tint on the windows, chrome poked dished wheels, chrome roll cage, chrome grill surround. Now that would look siiick!! Total Rat Rod style

I was planning on doing that but I told friends about it and they started screaming murder b/c I was going to do it to an Audi not like a VW or something. After seeing this I might still do it! I've been wanting to do wide steelies but can't find 17" or 18" steelies

why would you need 8 wheels to widen them ?

when they widen a wheel they just cut it in half and weld a band inbetween
and cuts off the face a repositions if the backspacing needs to be changed
