I know its early, but im already a 52k+ miles, and my dealer just said i need a tune-up at the price of $389.02 [headbang] [headbang]
my question is, why so early and what does it entail? They claimed that a $125.00 of that was parts? are they lieing to me or is it legit?

look in your service book. 50-55k is generally a tune-up point. and it is 300+

the 35k one is like 969.00 or something ridiculous like that. 389 seems cheap for an audi tune-up

WHAT? u kidding?
WHAT? u kidding?
nope. its part of the audi care package. if you have a lease or premier purchase, you have to get all of the audi care scheduled maintenance or else you have to pay a large fee at the end. that's why most people just go ahead and finance it into their deal for $1500. If you don't buy it, you have to pay for
5k service, ~$100.00
15k ~3xx.00
25k ~5-600.00
35k ~969.00

im leasing but its only a 2 year 15,000 a year lease, so 35,000 mi will be after my lease ends...sooooooo if i buy it out, ill still have to pay for the 35,000mi?

That’s why I got the extended warranty so all the really expensive stuff would be covered. It cost but in the long run just the maint. Service will be well worth it not to mention if anything goes wrong. Only downside it I am scared to modd the car to much so OEM parts for me. lol

Really?
Whenever possible I do my own work on my cars. I just started a new lease and I asked two different people at the dealership if it was OK if I did the maintenance myself, and they said it was fine. So should I be worried?

i was told that if you don't get it done (i can't remember if its audi dealer only or not) with proof that its done that you have to pay a fee. Because its a lease, they require you to do each thing on the big services, and if you do it yourself, you can't prove it was legitimately done. When the finance manager offered it to me, I said no b/c I was going to do my own too and just buy the parts. Then she told me that, so I went ahead and got it. I'd call service at your dealer and maybe another to be sure. One of our dealers is wrong I guess.

Yes that is relatively cheap. 60K mile service (fluid change and inspect & check) on our BMW 325Ci.....$900.

Audi care was only ~$500 dollars for my 07 2.0TQ... I'm pretty sure this is a flat fee unless the salesperson was trying to squeeze another $1k out of you.

yep, just checked it, it was $550. my mistake. no wonder i got it!! they make you think its such a "deal," but they give you an ultimatum now that they don't cover it for free: be screwed a little, or be screwe alot.

Lease ownership is the SAME as loan purchase or cash purchase.
Maintenance, unless provided free of charge by the dealer, can be done by ANYONE. To maintain warranty, however, the manufacturer can require the the owner provide proof of maintenance.
If you change your own oil all you need to do is keep the receipts from the oil and filter purchases. Also, you do not need to do oil changes in excess of what the maintenance schedule recommends.
She basically either lied to you to get the extra money, or she doesn't know what she is talking about. It's probably the latter. However, if one does not know then one should not say something to get you to spend the money. That is almost as bad as lying.
Nearly all of the maintenance on these cars is inspection. Inspection amounts to looking to see if there are problems. Anyone can do that, and if they can't they can go to ANY certified mechanic and not have to pay the higher dealer prices.
Is there a law that says all this? You bet. It's called the "magnusson-moss warranty act". It covers more than just cars.

But be sure to have receipts for all required scheduled maintenance IAW the service schedule in your manual, not just oil and filter.
And yes, if you want to, you can do the work yourself if you're so inclined. Just save the receipts for the parts and document it.
Be advised though, things get heavy on the 35k, depending on your model.
If you're on a 3 year/36k lease, that could get expensive if you go much over 35k and have to pay for that service.

Exhibit A in the case of "Why dealers won't give kids loaners."
Now please start whining about why you can't rent a car at your age.

i certainly wouldn't beat on an audi. especially since you don't have an ethical leg to stand on if the dealer takes your car out to lunch when its in for service, and "has a little fun."

I used to beat up on the loaner C 230's when I took my Benz in for service. I always got the insurance so I could abuse it a little. I beat the crap out of the Rav 4 they gave me recently, mostly because that damn thing doesn't move for shit, so I kinda had to.[:D]
