Stuck between on what to get, all the ebay threads are directed towards the S.A.T. guys and they are the only ones who bought them

who do we have and what do we have?

TIA

If there is a shitty turnout on this thread, then ill just have to suck it up and get a bad boy cooler.

No logs of IAT (b4 and afta) from the ebay crowd make buying the ebay core a nervous option...

I might bite the bullet and get a garrett core... (even though I want to upgrade my whip sooner than later)

Someone did logs already and it proved fairly suscessful. It will cool the air no matter what, you cant deny that, but testing is so difficult because there are so many variables.

rosati, my buddy dualaudi has vag logs of his just-intercoolers 30x9x2 3/4 inch core, pretty impressive, i think throughout the rev range he never went past like 36-38 C. mine however got up to like 45 C at around 6000 rpm. mine is a 30x6x3 core. the 9 inch core is nice, just have to hack the crap out of the bumper reinforcement. pm dualaudi for his before & after logs.

they can do the before and after
and make note of the outside temp when they ran each of those logs...

And if it's only ko3 guys running them how can the bt guys know it's sufficient for a larger turbo?

I'm cheap and sometime being cheap usually costs more in the end. So the money I thought i saved actually turns out to be double what I planned on or expected to spend. That's why I'm not sold on the ebay and might grab a Garrett for my birthday.

I have a custom IC setup. Its working fine........... Are you interested in IAT only or fitment, because let me tell you a custom setup takes a lot of time.

I can never remember if you are DBW or DBC. If you are DBW then you will have to deal with welding in the boost sensor.

dbc,
I use to love working on my teg but when they broke into it and stole my tools I never replaced them (circa 2003).

I would most likely have my tuner install it. (Not that friggen BK backyard mechanic I just dealt with... ROAR...)

Don't you have a precision core DON?

What turbo's are yall running?

I'm DBC , Im not too particular on the IAT's as long as they are in the low-mid range, I dont beat on the car too much, but when i do, i want it to perform.... Ive never heatsoaked my A4 before and dont really plan on it. If i push the car , it is for short intervals.

My ideal Cooler from just-intercoolers is the biggest (height and length wise) for around $100. The last thread showed a pretty good one for that price, but then theres everyone forgetting which pipes they used and didnt use, etc.

Also, Don mentioned that i should go 2.75" piping, Id like to bc id rather have top end power w/ the larger pipes (For the 28RS)

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I didn't say you shoud 2.75" piping, thats too big. My end tanks are 2.75" but my piping is 2.5".

Rosati

yea i always thought that might be too big, But good, glad you clarified it, But bigger end tanks will yield a better top end right?

I was parked next to Arif the other day, and we were comparing the FMIC's... Our core's are pretty much identical, however his is from Greddy. My piping is bigger than his, and he runs a 2871R and says it works wonders...

If you're worried about the ones most bought are too small, I've seen several ones that are slightly larger.

TY, i believe you. Plenty of people have dubbed these IC's sufficient and are more than happy w/ them

Another question though, Since i dont have my S4 bumper yet, what is the max thatll fit behind a stock bumper (with hacking) 2.75"?

Got my eye on this one : http://www.audizine.com/gallery/data/500/4494DSC06922-med.JPG

I think thats what he meant by S.A.T. even though he should have just put Tiny Ass Turbo. [:p]

Depends on how much you want to hack [:D]

But seriously, mine is 2 1/4" width and it is sitting DIRECTLY behind the metal of the support.. Any bigger and you'll have to cut up the metal support.

Rob the best size for our stock bumper is 27x6x2.5 ... this is with minor triming of the iner side of the bumper about maybe 5 to 15 mm and it looks ver nice very clean and i think the Intercooler size is fairly big or maybe enough for the turbo that u running. Contact EUROSshps279 i dont know his exact audizine ID lol his car looks clean and the FMIC is very nice

I think some guys on vortex are. They do lower the IATs though over the SMIC. IMO the best thing to do is get a good Garrett core and some DIY piping with some good hump couplers and T-bolt clamps.

Here seems to be a good setup to be used with a bumper other then the stock one.

that is a 3.5" core... do you think that would fit behind a S4 bumper?????

I really need to buy a battery for my laptop so I can log mine. I haven't had any problems with it though on my t28r.

Got my eye on this one :

28x9x2.75 2.5 i/o

This is my FMIC in the picture.

outside temps 78deg, SMIC was 38-48. Next day same outside temps I ran 25-32... the high numbers are when i'm getting on it for a few runs and i start to get Heat soak... running K04 pc16. regardless of your turbo, a FMIC will cool IAT's down... i've never tested a garret core, so i can't say with this same set up if it will go lower than the one i'm running... but for under 300 for evrything, i'm not complaining...

It will be very close on a S4 bumper but it should fit. I run a very tall 3.5" core with an S4 bumper and I have a space between my core and the radiator which is about the same space that the AC core would be.

The fmic in the picture I posted above is going on a car that has a RS4 type of bumper and IIRC those have less space behind them then a S4 bumper.
