Does anyone know if I can bolt the MAF located on top of the stock 98.5 1.8T airbox onto a housing like this one?

I'm asking because I want to go with a DSMIC setup, but the stock airbox looks like it's going to be in the way... with something like this I can easily rig up a cone filter setup.

Why not just remove your stock maf from the air box? It is just held in with 2 screws.

You know what, after posting this I realized how stupid a question this was. It's been a long time since I've opened up the airbox, for some reason I thought the MAF was bolted to the top of it (the thing that I now think is the temp sensor?).

Should prove to be an interesting project (2nd SMIC). I'll be sure to post up pics when done [wrench]

The thing bolted to the top of the airbox is the Ignition Control Module. It uses a heatsink inside the airbox to keep it cool.

gotcha, so I can pretty much mount it anywhere cool right?

Well if you're doing the cone filter, then just mount it on the left somewhere near the filter and make a heatshield. Should work ok [up]

I used a piece of aluminum to hold the heatshield up. I mounted it to the original hole in the fender where the airbox bolts up, and then across to the heatshield. I then attached the ICM to that aluminum support bar with some heatsink paste sandwiched in between.

I know there are plenty of people out there that don't even go to that trouble and just let it hang freestyle...

what is in the way is the A/C drier and SAIP if you have one. good luck!
