Well after countless 2 step launches and other beatings on the audi, my manifold finally cracked. And then cracked again, and then again, so I finally welded it up hopefully for the last time, and built this turbo brace for the 25lb or whatever it weighs, turbo. Here's some pics

^^ Buying it takes the fun out of it. Plus that would be the reliable way to do it so I'm not gonna do that!

Looks good tom. Just be carefull with those outer locations. When I had my turbo brace mounted up like that I snapped a few of those spots, the casting is very soft. You might want look at doing a brace from under the turbo to the block itself.

Hmm interesting, I just looked at how the old rally cars turbo braces where built and went from there... I guess I'll see about putting some braces to the block but I'm not sure if its necessary. These seem to distribute the weight pretty well especially with those two lower ones. I can stand on the bracket and it will support my weight...then again I only weigh 140 lbs :P

I have measured the hks filter, the cobra hose, and the 90 degree elbows and nothing will fit behind the headlight.

And yea my engine bay is filthy...thats what ny winter roads will do, once im sure it wont snow anymore i'll clean it up. The whole car is filthy, I've been neglecting it in favor of my 84 rabbit project

I would love for tom to get a proper tune but we know it won't happen.his motto should be '' if you're not spiking 28 psi at a stop light you aint shit.''

^^ Are you located in Potsdam!? damn for a tiny town in the middle of no where there sure is a lot of us. We got to napiereville just below montreal. AIM me TomRitt18944. A couple guys are going tonight, I dont think I'm going to though

Me no. Burlington Vt. I have close friends with a camp and house south of malone. Have been to potsdam a bunch of times. I was just wondering where the track was. my car is in no way trackable yet.

TomRitt18944
04-20-2007, 11:31 AM
yea potsdam has got to be one of the boringest towns I;ve ever lived in. I graduate in a few weeks and then I'm actually moving to burlington, VT! i start work June 1st. Are you a member of DubsNorth or the VtRides forums?

theskuh
04-20-2007, 06:44 PM
Cool, Burlington is very chill, we will have to hook up. I am just a member here at audizine. I might check them out probably a little too old for the local scene though.

That track is close hour and a half ( minus the time for a body cavity search at the border) from here. Any road courses in canada?

04-20-2007, 07:04 PM
that pasta strainer is way too ghetto for even you tom. besides it's really bad on inlet flow and turb. Go with the pantyhose... used of course.

TomRitt18944
04-20-2007, 07:49 PM
Hahaha, I'll try and steal a used set at the bar tonight... I can't fit any other hoses on, I've try an elbow, a bend, and a cobra hose with no luck.

TheSkuh: There's a bunch of older guys in the DubsNorth forum, I'm not sure how old you are but theres def a more mature crowd there. Yea I love Burlington, I'm there pretty much every other weekend, def a fun place and I'm psyched to move there! I don't know of any real tracks in Canada, there's always st. lawrence speedway or whatever its called, its a tight track, pretty low speed i;ve heard

You might as well weld a motor mount up high like the dogbone struts and brace it from there it's so big. Jealous...looks like a turbo diesel turbo w/ a baby engine.

yea napierville is certainly an interesting track...basically no rules. My friends where there on friday in the Duramax's and one guy racing against the fast duramax was drunk and ran off the end of the track into the corn field...although the corn hasnt started growing yet...definetly an interesting time there! Crazy french canadians

Looks like it should hold up. However, I can't belive that those clamps are still holding up... have they never blown off under high boost?

i just literally laughed out loud. Good idea Tom, I just hope it holds up , How thick are the braces? 1"? It seems like it should work

As usual, Good job!

TomRitt18944
04-23-2007, 06:12 AM
Yea I'm gurantee the brace will hold, its by far overkill. Not sure how thick the tube it, it was left over from another project, i'd say 3/4". My only worries with it is that it will hit the hood before I get a chance to build some new motor mounts.

Yea they will let u run on anything at napierville. last weekend snowmobiles and quads were running against cars.

Yea the clamps are holding up but I also have massive beads on all my piping. I do have the tbolt clamps on the fmic

thats it when are we going?

offroader1006
04-23-2007, 08:20 AM
the brace itself looks very beefy, but i would just worry about the stress on the valve cover itself.

was never meant for that type of load.

where do the two lower mounting points attach?
