So I'm set on getting chipped and since I'm in the NOLA area I think Revo is my only option. Now the question is how soon I should really try doing this. My car is being shipped here from elsewhere and only has 30 or so miles on it. How much of a break-in should I give it before chipping?
Sorry if this has been answered before, but in my initial browsing of threads I must have missed it.
Thanks in advance,
Raj

I got chipped the following day I bought the car, so I don't really know the performance of a stock 2.0T. :-)

Wow, so it seems people have chipped at a number of different points! I plan on probably only keeping my car 2 years (4 years MAX) so ultimate longevity isnt a huge issue. I just wonder how much the break in period would be affected by chipping so early. I figure either way I'll go to my local tuner and get a Revo trial ;)

there's many opinions.
many say there is a break-in period
many say motor is already broken in

Got mine chipped after the first oil change. Test-pipe about 1000 miles later. No issues at all...just a big smile.
Im a late bird around 25k miles...im from nola too. The only option I had was Greff Motors. Great guys to deal with

Excellent! Great to hear you didnt have any problems with them. Yeah, Revo is basically our only option here unless we want to drive to Baton Rouge or if you want APR drive to Auburn, AL.
Have you had Greff do any other work for you?

Break in is not really necessary any more. Many will argue this but, from what I have read, most manufacturers, if not all, break in the motors at the factory. Makes sense to avoid costly warranty issues.
I don't really think the chipping itself does much anyways as far as poetential damage. It's all common sense...get chipped tomorrow but you don't need to beat the shit out of it right away. You can still break the car in with it chipped. You can drive like grandma with it chipped so do it right away. For most it's the warranty concern (voiding it) more than anything.
I will admit though, I did not do it until 25K but I wish I had earlier...it was fear of the unknown for me.

Yeah I admit I'm worried about "the unknown" but I'm probably still going to take the walk on the wild side and chip it. I just hope massive engine failure isnt in the cards for me.

7k. No software was available at the time but if I had to do it again, I'd wait at least until after the first service.

depends if it a purchase or lease. if lease chip it the same day...if you bought and plan on keeping the car for awhile break it in first.

It was under 1000. Just finish proper break in.

I didn't know they had a software retailer in BR..which chip are they offering? I was close to pulling the trigger on the APR chip from a company in FL. They are a mobile company that is willing to meet their customer anyway! But they charge a fee if they have to drive over 150 miles roundtrip. At that same time I found out that Greff just became a Revo retailer, so I opt to go local. I rather have local support for maitenance or troubleshooting, where I wouldn't have to worry about driving a couple hours.
The only work I've done there besides the chip was the testpipe.
As far as the SPS unit, I still do not have one. Since the day I was chip, I have not needed to use the SPS (maybe that's why I haven't bought one yet). My friend with a modded 06 GLI has the Select Plus if I ever needed one. I probably will need to one soon for an upcoming project[wrench]

Hrm. Actually I think that BR dealer is a Revo tuner now that I think about it again. I had no idea there was a mobile FL crew. Either way I think that Revo is the direction I wanted to go in and as you said local support will be key.
How has your experience with the local Audi dealership been for servicing? Or have you not even bothered to try since you have so many mods? [eek]
On another note how does your friend like the GLI?
I talked to the guy at the service desk and ask him how they felt about mods. He was cool enough to bring me to the back to show me his answer..gave me a mini tour of some modded cars..dropped cars with rims, and a BT s4. Even if this was the case, I'm still hesitant about bringing it in with the testpipe installed. Knowing how fragile the CVT transmission is, I would not want to risk getting written down for having one and rejected of warranty service in the future if I needed warranty work. I still have another 10k miles before I have to worry about bringing it in.
I really don't have that many mods, well at least IMO. Maybe I'm addicted, and am not satisfied with the car so I 'feel' I have not done much. But from the outside, it looks like a bone stock a4 with tint.
The GLI is nice. It's stage 2, intake, exhaust, coilovers, kit, rims..all that good stuff. His DSG tranmission is silky smooth. I had the chance to run it and basically my CVT is neck to neck with his DSG with similar mods.

Cool. I'm probably only looking at chipping...its good to hear that NOLA Audi may not be a tough dealership to work with. I'll be sporting a 6-speed so I wont have any of those CVT worries.

I wasn't sure which argument to believe when I tried to make a decision about "break-in" period or not with the car.
I split the difference and waited until 500 miles was on the odometer.
Then APR let me know what I was missing and I've been a loyal customer ever since.

I have tip Giac X and TP and my tranny is holdin up fine, no problems at all! To the maker of this thread------ get it chipped the day of delivery [:D] lol, actually u should probably wait for a like 1,000 miles so you can break in the engine and tranny.

I think I will do an exhaust maybe the first week. I will wait until the first service for chipping. Probably go with GIAC.
A4tuned - have you dyno'd your setup?

No not yet, but im going to go ever to Joe Hoppen of MTM and get it dyno'd soon. Im going to wait until I get my Carbonio in first though. Cause that will probably be the last major engine mod I will get.

I just recently crossed the 1000 mile mark and performed the first oil change. I probably won't get her chipped until after the second oil change @ 5k miles. Then again, unlike some others on this thread, I plan on keeping my Avant for as long as possible.

TIP and I run the APR 100 octane map with a test pipe, full time.
No problems with the transmission to report.
