can you do a throttle body adaptation on an aeB engine even the are drive by wire using VAGCOM

I have also heard that leaving the key in the ON position but not starting the car for several minutes will also perform the TBA, and although I have heard it start clicking and making similar sounds as a VAG-COM TBA, I can't confirm that it has taken place.

Yes because all you are doing is allowing the ECU to check the position of the throttle plate by using the TB sensor. It is block 098 with the vag. The dbw adaption just adds a function for the ecu to make sure the throttle body is working correctly by doing a few 0-100% cycles.
