There's no tip chip for B6 or B7's. It's the one thing I hate about my car too, tip is waaaayyyyy too slow to shift

gaic has a tip chip for b6's ... a guy on either this forum or vwvortex has it. I also spoke to the local tuner around here who said they had done it(but didnt recommend it because issues had come up)

I have a Giac chip for my tip 2.0T it does make the repsonse way better I'm really happy with it and hope to upgrade to stage 2 wit 100oc soon, but im not sure if Giac has a program for that yet

The slow shifting with the tip is amazing. I hope someone can address it and speed it up.

I chose the A4 over a GTI DSG, but now that it's too late am having second thoughts.

That's the nature of the beast unfortunately. If you want full control over transmission go with a manual not a tip.

Yeah, I guess you're right. It's my bad for not hammering on the car during the test drive. I probably would have gotten the manual trans car.

Oh well, guess it's good I got a 2-year lease. Hopefully they'll have a TDI with DSG by then!!!

You can also try a sprint booster

While it doesn't actually make your car's tranny shift faster, it supposedly makes your car downshift faster because there is less throttle lag.

For me the downshifting, especially in sport, works great.

The problem is upshifts. The car rips (well, relatively quickly accelerates) to redline, then there's an agonizingly slow shift to the next gear. It feels like it's retarding timing at the same time, too.

Suuuuper slow compared to say, a BMW. The last bimmer I drove clicked off shifts quickly and efficiently.

There must be a way to reprogram it. The question is if there's enough product demand for one of the tuners to crack the code in the trans controller.

I'm not exactly sure how an auto tranny works, but I think slow shifts have something to do with torque converters. I think torque converters are similar to a slipping clutch and can be changed so that they apply power faster, but at the expense of smoothness.
If you drove a BMW auto tranny, it doesn't surprise me one bit that they are better engineered. If you drove BMW's SMG, than that's not a fair comparison, because SMG is like Audi's DSG. They both are not auto tranny's. They are manuals with auto clutches and shift even faster than any human can shift a manual.

I hated this with my tip... but i got used to shifting earlier and estimating when to downshift to when the car actually would... The tip chip for the b5 were nice but i dont expect to see it with our b7s

Bump. Any updates on companies that can chip the TIP (other Giac)?

Also anyone know if the Tip tranny in the B7 S4 is the same as A4? Or does the S4 has a stronger torque convertor?

Word on the street is that JHM is starting to do some TCU tuning for Audis.

Tuning is definitely needed here.
Most reading I see on shift speeds had more to do with the valving and fluid porting on the tranny itself, not an ECU reprogramming.
I thought companies like Level10 have the ability to boost the fluid pressures and porting to make things snap into place much quicker than OEM. Anyone ever tired their product or similar?

yeh if you've got the money to do something like that you'll have a much stronger, quicker shifting tranny

Hey, this is an A4 crowd[:D]....... I was under the impression everyone here was loaded! After all they drop several grand on punk rims and coffee can exhausts without thinking twice, so dropping pocket change on something actually useful would be nice to hear about for once![:p]

Ah well, back to my Miller...

Thats absolutely true, trouble is finding someone reputable to do it. The few trans upgraders I have seen that deal with the ZF transmissions either have bad things said about them or nothing at all. I think the tranny forum sponser will rebuild your valve body for faster shifts, but you need to remove , send it away, wait, then reinstall yourself leaving the car down for a week or more, and the charge is $550 IIRC. I'm considering it for my B6 tip, but A) I wish I could try it before I buy it and B) I don't like the idea of having the car down for that timeframe.
